  1. Doesn't the low range ratio stay the same anyway, with the quoted ratio just being the High range one? So your Disco TBox would have a 3.32:1 low ratio anyway?
  2. Thanks Les, this is a conversation I am going to have. However could this sort the front OS quarter, as it is could be crumpled and shortened sufficiently to nearly completely open up the steering shaft expansion joint (so by about 30mm)? MS Paint illustration of potential damage: Note how much the spring is might be set back relative to the shock.
  3. Mine doesn't do that, and it would make you steer left all the time?
  4. Hallo gibt in Österreich! (Verzeihung mein Deutsch, Google hat es für mich) Yes, we are a bunch of cracks on here (I think you mean Verrückte, not Risse?) but we're harmless . Your English is plenty good enough, welcome to LR4x4.com!
  5. Bearing in mind this is all just a thought experiment : It would if I had the space. I have one car's worth of drive to work on, so just stripping only one corner (which will have to happen to straighten the soon-to-be bent-wing etc.) seemed a better prospect. There is the added complication that I'm on crutches (unrelated to the hypothetical accident) for a while so I could direct others and wield the Torch of MIG, but I'm no use lifting tubs, engines etc. In related news, apart from the usual assortment of Bearmach and Britpart repair sections, no-one does a part-chassis (I've contacted Designa, Richards and Marsland). Gap in the market?
  6. BAD idea. It is supposed to have 4, to even out the stresses.
  7. Follow-up question (1): If I were to re-build the 90 on a good secondhand chassis of comparable age, from a UK registered donor vehicle, do I incur the wrath of IVA as an "Amateur Built"? My reading is that it wouldn't be "structurally modified", but it wouldn't be "rebuilt" either, as I'm not a professional!
  8. Glad to be of service - I think - - but your life would feel like it was lacking something? I am dreaming of having a shed / workshop big enough to have a tool chest in AND be able to open the drawers, so I'm living out of tool rolls . I converted the imperial ones to metric when I got the 90 ...
  9. Other lesser disk-based handbrake conversions may be available, but we don't like them , and we aren't saving up for them
  10. I think this should be in International. Anyway, "suddenly" heavy is either pump failure (arsk me how I know ) or serious fluid level / bleeding issues, which will have gone away when you transferred the bits. I've not ome accross an intermittent pump failure? They work and then they don't, forever (or until you find which ferkin' fuse it is (not LR))
  11. That's because there are lots of possible causes! 99% of the things to check are here, all in one easy list. Just be logical and thorough.
  12. Thanks for the comments, that's my understanding too, should the worst ever happen I think mine would be C, but it will would not be repaired by the insurer as the repair cost (including astronomical labour charges) may exceed the gross national debt of Greece the value of the vehicle - a 1988 90TD hard-top-with-windows, in good-ish nick, is not the most sought after model ... I'll keep you all up-to-date with dvelopments in la-la-land as and when: I may be back for more technical details and advice soon (should the worst ever ... you know the score )
  13. Drawer? DRAWER? Amateurs. Just ram the shed / garage / workshop full! Who cares if you can't find the right spanner ever again, just an excuse to buy some new ones!
  14. This post, right hand diagram Ralph to the rescue
  15. One of the weirdnesses: but: He does say the engine has only done 32k miles, but otherwise it seems OK (the seats are about par for 32k miles). I am the 8th owner of a 1988 machine, but that's got 140k on it ... The biggest hmmmm for me is Bulkheads aren't structural next to the windscreen mounts then?
  16. * cough * * splutter * End its life? It isn't even damaged yet Thanks for the info Ralph, it looks like the potential damage may be just enough to put it back into LR tolerances
  17. That be the one! Thank you.
  18. If this accident were to happen, then hypothetically I would be most interested in the LR dimensions! (Please) The 5mm is an imaginary dimension based on etimating how bad it might be (if it were to happen, of course).
  19. WSM sayeth "toe out 1.19 to 2.38mm". However dead straight is OK. (I arsk you, measurements to the nearest .01mm? )
  20. They replied, but they don't do sections Richards next ...
  21. Does it do it while the vehicle is stationary? If so (and if your vehilce is blessed with PAS) then it could be that the PAS belt needs tightening.
  22. Ah, well, in the hypothetical parallel reality we ae currently navigating, the rest of the chassis could indeed be "laddered" by about 5mm. The little pixie sent out by the body shop tugged his beard and said "nah mate, new chassis, not worth repairing". Since one day I will wake up from this dream and go back to reality (one in which the insurer will hypothetically write it off) I am trying to gather information while I have the chance. A new chassis would only be an option (at £1k+VAT) if I did it myself, which leads me from DreamworldTM to back into NIGHTMARE-O-RAMA © inhabited by SWMBO and her insatiable demands (for house maintenance ) Anyway, hypothetically breaking a 90TD?
  23. That'd be 1988 ... Interesting idea, but <tongueincheek> it hasn't happened yet, so I'll leave off a wanted ad </tongueincheek> I have emailed Designa Chassis to see what they would charge ... Many thanks, Errol.
