  1. Very interesting read this... I'll be collecting a 200 Tdi & drivetrain in November so reading all this, very tempted to use the gearbox aswell. How about the front axle - no CV's required ?
  2. Interesting Project We have a ArgoCat Conquest here for the MRs. to use and that is an 8x8 skidsteer. The setup works very well - and great fun. Basically the variomatic drives the diff - either side has a disk brake you operate. Please keep us informed - very interesting to see where you eventually will end up with...
  3. What he said. Keep the gun at a 90 degrees angle of the bodywork and move horizontally & vertically We did the 110 ourselves. Me the sanding etc. & the 1stLady did the actual spraying. Base vehicle The final result : Can't thank her enough - she did a great job. And being a working vehicle, I'm not too worried if the finish is not perfect.
  4. PM me. I may have a Series & / or a Defender KM/H lying around.
  5. Sorry guys - en route and didn't check to see if the links would work. Right - apologies to the owners of the various pictures but below some pics of the G2F system Awesome system !
  6. You could try contacting these guys : http://www.maxtraction.co.uk/ We have been looking very seriously into this when they were 1st shown by G2F and tried to get a kit into Holland. Eventually gave up. The "Revolver Shackle System" itself is still sold for the US market as they love leaving wheels & axles behind when they fly off... Have a look : http://images.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&source=imgres&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CAgQjRw4AWoVChMI5O6M5sPgxwIVw1caCh0qOwMb&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.difflock.com%2Fbuyersguide%2Fnewproducts%2Fgone2far%2Findex.shtml&psig=AFQjCNFM_u5S2icuyh40epggcADR5cPVsg&ust=1441564343428755 TBH, these days, without any back up from suppliers etc., I'd be very reluctant to fit it to any road going vehicle. A trailer to a site is different but we don't do that.. But I have some doubts calling the average insurer and telling them about this modification... Eventually, we went for the original TIC 2 & 3 leaf set up with Koni's and are very happy with them. Interesting read this !
  7. Been using them for years and never problems. You may need longer wheel studs as they are thick. AFAIK, both vehicles are 3500 kgs. MAM rated..
  8. Like they said. Most has to be DIY as the industry thinks we're a minority not worth their profits. We have several things done for when we're abroad. Here, we have dogs and shotguns...
  9. Bonjour I need to replace the Disco I Transfer Box on the 300 Tdi 110 Hard Top for a standard one as it doesn't pull well here with all these hills etc.. So, I cannot give the supplier a "like-for-like" Transfer Box. I do have a few Disco I Transfer Boxes and a 1.6 : 1 one. Having had very bad experiences with with a well know Transmission supplier in Luton, I rather go somewhere else. I will be in the UK in November so ideally, the box could be changed then. Where to go for a good quality Transfer Box ?
  10. Dank U !!! Looks like I'll be doing some grinding to the Hybrid soon.... How far did you move the rear bulkhead back ?
  11. Welcome - you're a brave man to return to the Madhouse...
  12. Very impressive !!! Well done. Brings back a lot of memories when we did the Series.. The gearbox bit will be useful - I need to do ours within a year or 2.. Keep them coming, please !!
  13. Vehicle Wiring Products have basically all you need. Vehicle building solutions do very nice stuff.. I've build several looms for various vehicles - biggest one was a 4x4 DAF Truck with living and a waterbed - but never anywhere near "original". My 110 has over 60 fuses, 20 relays and a few non standard options for security. Serious amounts of cable went in and a custom build computer database to document it all. There are just numbers - no colour codes. The Series Hybris has a loom build by me and that has lasted over 20 years of abuse. Use the best quality cable, connectors etc. you can afford, take your time building and document what you do. Have Fun.
  14. Hi there - welcome here. Are you sure the red lever is pushed fully forward - sounds almost like it is in low range. Is the throttle fully opening ? The gearboxes for diesel & petrol are the same AFAIK..
  15. Have been using them for years. Top quality but beware of white box filters inside the Mahle box Happens a lot in Holland.
  16. Ehm.... "at a third the price of an Azalai is attractive" Can you point me towards an Azalai body under 5k ? They are GOLD here in France... Like your idea with the fold up caravan !!
  17. Making the voyage to (58430 ?) is not the main problem. Finding the time to do it is... Being kept busy Construction activities..
  18. The "Maggiolina type" rooftents are in a different league than fold open rooftents. They are basically just for sleeping and nothing more. The rooftents are often bigger & roomier by default due to design. But they are also a different weight. Leaving bedding in them is easier than in the fold open tents. I'd go for a hotel / B&B solution though.
  19. Been using the 2.5 N/A in both Ninety and Series and they are very, very good period engines. BUT - they need their services. And they need them done properly. We use "Bahr" injectorcleaner every other refill. I am no mechanic by choice but these engine are very well for DIY service. Took the Ninety to 10,000 Ft. in the Alps with the 2.5 N/A on a 1,300 kms. roundtrip and did just fine. In the Series it is a great engine and off Tarmac very, very good. You need to realise that they were based on a design going back to post war days and speed was not a design parameter when Land Rover put them in Ninety & OneTens. And if you want to feel "underpowered, have a "spin" in a 2.25 diesel One-Ten.... Speed records it will not set. But if you learn to live with that they are seriously good engines - and we have them start at - 20 C no problem. Don't have the need for speed, make sure it is set up properly - go to see a specialist if in doubt - and enjoy.
  20. Hmmm.... Interesting idea Daan. Could you make some pics please - I'm not 100 % sure I understand it correctly. Don't mind cutting the bulkhead - what did you do with the fuel filler ?
  21. Hmm... Waay too many moons ago, I cut out the rear bulkhead of the 109" we had and can't remember having any issues with body flex or opening doors.. However, the Ninety did not respond well to cutting it out so we fitted the RBRB and the problem was solved. The Series is caged and I'm not sure if there is outwards tension on the legs... Food for thought.
  22. We used a winching relay as it was surplus when building the Hybrid. Think a good 30 Amp. relay should do it. Think about a fuse though - if it goes wrong, it could seriously go wrong.. Nothing wrong with the mentioned engine - good conversion.
