  1. The vertical chassis rails bolts (pair on either side) will fit both Defender and Series III. Some bumpers have a 3rd. horizontal bolt mount and that means either some extra drilling or welding, depending on type. What differs is the length of the part of the bumper outide the bolt - a defender is wider so the bumper is about and inch on either side wider than the Series. Possible not doesn't look right at times. Hope this makes sense. Have pics somewhere of Defender bumper on Series if you want.
  2. We have about 10-12 nights without problems. I really think you need to look at the current set up as it should do better than a night..
  3. Hmm..... Not sure I'd go for that set up TBH. A lot of weight, a lot of potential for problems with 3 batteries and the attached wiring and electronics.. IMHO the night heater should not drain the battery at all. The thing uses very little amps wise and we have ours on loads and loads of chilly nights (like -25 to -35 C.) in the Alps. The inverter is bound to take quite a bit of amps although things like a laptop etc. don't ned a lot of juice.. Have a look at that inverter as it seems to consume a lot of amps...
  4. We're not sure what happened. I asked the owner of a Keswick Green 110 for the paint code, checked it and this is the result : BUT - this is a big but - we have done the paint job ourselves. Me the sanding etc. and HerLadyShip did the spraying, both the green and the top layer. We like the colour but it is not Keswick Green....
  5. Be careful with those codes.... We got a somewhat different Keswick than we expected when we ordered..... HFU 799 Keswick Green 38505A Limestone HTH.
  6. Think the main difference in the Td5 ones not having the rear "tabs" the body bolts on to. Td5 has a loose strip. The stationwagon has an extra cross beam but that is bolt on AFAIK.. Put them side to side..
  7. Put them together on a weighbridge and you have your answer.
  8. We have our cold here - and where we go - and have taken the easy route : Ebensprächer / Webasto. The 110 has 2 - one for the engine aqnd one as a night heater, the other 2 are just night heaters for the interior. Serious money for serious heat & comfort.
  9. Yes. LaSalle is good. Very good. At a price. But we were very happy to pay it.
  10. Points lost are lost forever - until the change is back to the original spec according to the VIN no. as it left the factory. But that is not easy as a friend found when he refitted the original engine in order to get the exempt status back... Like you, Holland has a very strict point system and loosing the year is very expensive....
  11. Unless you find a "bottom PTO", fitting a "rear one" will give you problems when an Overdrives is in the plans. Capstans are nice looking but really a 2 man thing when used for self recovery I like the hydraulic ones - esp. as you can make the "remote control"
  12. We are getting a 200 Tdi in the Series Hybrid and will initially use the (rebuild) series gearbox + TB. Main reason is that the 2.5 N/A is getting very tired and I could do with a bit more power.. However, a good 2.5 N/A is actually a very nice engine and works well in a Series. We've been looking at several options, incl. the Mazda 3.5 Tdi , as we have 4 disc brakes, we have powersteering but in the end decide to go for the 200 Tdi. Oh, and we have had a 2.25 diesel Turbo in her the 1st. 18 years. Massive US donor sourced radiator to keep things a bit cool and careful driving never gave us problems but it is tricky - they were not build for them... Sounded good though
  13. Hmm.... Total ban on diesels is unlikely but politicians are not really know for intelligent decisions, are they... Modern diesel truck have cleaner stuff leaving the exhaust than the stuff that enters it in the first place these days. On a global scale, cars are not he biggest polluter but they are the easiest target. Will keep the diesel though.
  14. Think you mean this one : The clever bit :
  15. Hmm... We use dedicated earth cables throughout the vehicle and use the chassis. Positive earth is said to have less corrosion issues but grown ups will know more. Anything in contact with air will corrode so I just live with it.
  16. The Bernards are good - but noisy ! Is it an electric start ?
  17. Hmm.... Containers are for transport and storage is not really their thing. Ventilation is a problem and most things rust inside. I have a universal container opening tool (I work with Customs a lot) and it will open anything when asked. It doesn't make noise and it works very well. And before you ask, one needs a special licence to carry one If they want to open it, they will open it. An alarm, some good locks and insurance are your friend.
  18. Ehmm.... As you guys can't wait to leave the EU, I can't say anything on that for the UK because you have already different rules . In the EU, any reward given to transport goods or people gets you into a legal minefield nobody cares about as long as all goes well. When the sh.t hits the fan it suddenly becomes ugly. We stopped giving lifts to people on the horsetruck as the French classed it as commercially related activities.... Enjoy !
  19. Please do whatever you're happy with, but the French have a different idea about paperwork in some cases. I had no problem getting a CoC for a '63 Land Rover, neither did a friend for his '84 Series III I have immatriculated quite a few vehicles in France and never had any inspection, other than the CT. None of my vehicles are standard. All the best.
  20. IF the chassisno. refers to a diesel engine, you're half way there because changing the fuel type is almost impossible to do. Volvo France will have to issue a (partial) CoC. That willl cost you about € 180. Not sure if you will get it as this type was not really common in Europe but you could try to find somebody in France with the same vehicle.. Depending on age etc. you have a few options, one is a CGdC (Carte Gris de Collection) but this all, again, depends on what, if any, paperwork Volvo France will issue. Don't tell them about the changes - just apply for the CoC and see what happens and take it from there.
  21. Hmm.... Classic situation. Diesel for diesel should not have been a problem. Now you informed Volvo France about the change, you're in trouble. Visite to Drire / Le Mine for some tests and parting with money. But should be possible.
  22. Whoever wants to talk to me, please feel free to contact me... Excuse my ignorance, but whjat vehicle are we talking about ? ... and eh " *Technically* (but probably not actually), if a vehicle has been registered in an EU country, another EU country is obligated to allow it to be imported and registered. Might not be easy, but if Volvo is willing to supply you with a new CoC, it should be possible. " No - this is not what the EU law says. There is a Guideline - and that is not law - to accept one's immatriculations. But no country must accept the other country's vehicle, other than for temp. use. like visiting on holidays. And vehicle's taken out of the UK with the intention of a duration of 6 month is regarded as "permentantly exported"
  23. OK - no worries. Have Fun. We may meet here one day. Serious Greenlaning to be done here...
