Retroanaconda
Folks, Can 200Tdi head bolts be reused, or are they single use only? Workshop manual for 300Tdi is quite clear that they can be reused up to five times, however the 200Tdi manual implies that they must be renewed every time. western
Not sure, I fitted new head bolts from Turners on the engine rebuild, but on a previous head gasket change I reused the original bolts with no issues.

Ex Member
Unless you owned it from new, how would you know? If it worth saving a little bit of money?
ianmayco68
Re-used mine when I did the 110 not had any problems .
Retroanaconda
Thanks folks. I've sorted a new set so will use them. Just didn't want to do so unnecessarily if they could be reused. Spare head has come back okay from the pressure test and been cleaned up and faced, so I just need to do the valve stem seals and then swap it over.
miketomcat
I think the lr workshop manual says 3 times but definitely more than one use. Mike

Ex Member
Too bad you are in the wrong forum for that manual.
miketomcat
On the basis the head and bolts are the same i guess we're both right then. Mike
western
My defender genuine manual says fit new bolts (200tdi), my 300tdi book says fit new bolts.
Retroanaconda
Mike - is that a 300Tdi manual or a 200Tdi one?
miketomcat
200tdi. Mike
Snagger
The manuals I have used in the past said 5 times for both Tdi versions. Haynes says the same, and their data is from the LR manuals.
Mo Murphy
On the basis that I didn't know if mine had been reused prior to, I bought new bolts. Mo
Retroanaconda
Seems an unclear picture from Land Rover, however I will use new ones as they’re cheap enough. Aiming to do the head swap this weekend, despite having the car ten years it’s the first time I’ve done one so wish us well!
Scotts90
Go gently with the t/stat housing bolts.

Retroanaconda
Thanks. Those have been done up to 25nm as per the book 👍🏻 Engine looks not too bad inside for 340k!
western
Mine was good inside too, that looks ok. after removing the pistons I found some semi circular cracks just below the oil control ring on the thrust side of pistons, 1,2, 3, 4 was OK. there were some shaded ares in the bores which were taken out by the 020 thou over bore.
