Green200tdi
While on the hunt for a 200tdi tappet cap I emptied the sump of oil and come across this a spade connector, 😳😂
Bowie69
I'm fairly certain I have an 8mm socket rattling around in one of the sumps of my V8s...
qwakers
do bits of piston and conrod, and crank carrier count😂

monkie
Bits of silicone sealant that the previous owner liberally applied to the mating surface of the sump and block. It was also partly clogging the oil pump gauze

monkie
Problem is, I'm as sure as I can be that it was the stuff sold for putting round baths and showers, not engine sumps
cackshifter
That's quite impressive if it seals. And probably won't grow mould either.

Eightpot
Found a missing part of a carburettor which took itself on a nice but noisy trip through an intake valve and no1 piston before having a swim in the sump.

It was blue, if I recall.

I opened an engine up once, and found similar, except it was one of the butterfly screws embedded in the top of no4 piston.

monkie
Oh, just remembered.. Wasn't a land rover but was a diesel cement mixer I got running again. Trapped in the sludge was a load of dead insects kind of mummified in the oil. A ladybird was particularly well preserved!

The engine came from a disco that had been off roaded to destruction. The guy I bought it off said it was the heaviest thing he's ever had on a trailer, reckoned there was a ton or two of mud caked under the body - it was just packed in solid around anything that didn't move.
