oneandtwo
Was it a rarity to spec a late Disco TD5 with centre diff lock? Just bought a cheap 04 plate one and has factory fitted diff lock which was a surprise, all the others I’ve ever owned or worked on haven’t had it. Gazzar
I thought they'd re introduced it later on.
Blanco
Facelift higher spec models had it anyway, lower models had the option.
landroversforever
It came back as an option. Some of the higher spec ones seem to have it. But even then plenty of high spec ones don’t.
oneandtwo
This one is the highest spec one I’ve seen, factory roof mounted sat nav and rear dvd screen, full wood and black leather and electric / heated everything, along with diff lock! Shame it’s time is nearly up it won’t pass another MOT but ending its days as being useful around the farm.
paime
Excuse the ignorance but would that centre lock be a straight bolt-on for a defender TD5?
Bowie69
The defender had the centre difflock as standard, no matter what year, it was only deleted for some TD5 Discoverys.
Simon_CSK
On most TD5;s the difflock was fitted on the gearbox and it was the selector that was missing.I beleive it was omitted because all TD5's had traction control which was deemed by LR to be better. However with both traction control and a difflock the Disco became a much better tool off road.

Sorry, poorly worded question. If my centre diff lock went pop and I had access to a disco one, would it be need fettling to fit?
landroversforever
I’m not sure you could interchange them, you’d have to make sure they’re the same suffix I think. The whole box would swap over but would need speedo swapping and the ratio would be different.
western
My mates D2 td5 has the difflock but no the linkage to connect to the cab lever. It also has abs & traction control, this on his 2003.
reb78
What needs welding on it. The body on mine (2004) needs something each year for the MOT at the moment. Strangely, my chassis is fine! Edited October 11, 2020 by reb78

Strangely, my chassis is fine! The chassis at the rear is really quite rotten, also brake pipes, Rest of it is really nice, not a dent or ding on it and in Java black too. Looking at the history it spent a long time in the Shetlands before somehow ending up in SW Cornwall, so it didn’t really stand a chance!
reb78
Haha. If the body on mine was better i would consider a chassis swap When it got to that stage but the body is rotting faster than the chassis for a change on the D2!
