It's not huge but it's only me and the dog this weekend so a "3 man" (more like two) is enough. Stephen has turned up and I think I'm in love. Sid is beautiful. Bowie69
...... And I didn't bring the door tops. Thankful to Mike and Jon for the tarp and cord! Perhaps I should carry one for times such as these....

Popular Post Ed Poore
Photo courtesy of @miketomcat but @Stellaghost decided after supper that Sid just wasn't quite good enough. So half an hour of tinkering and some "+2in" springs were installed. Expect I think Stephen must have given them some blue pills before fitting because Sid came back about 5" taller not 2". Standard lightweight for comparison Very impressive vehicle even if I did miss him driving it up a climb that I saw a handful of challenge trucks winching themselves up. 5

Bowie69
In other news, Jon and Mike were back in camp before dark, think we slipped into some sort of parallel universe whey people don't get their trucks stuck half an hour before leaving time.....
Ed Poore
No I think you had half the people who were driving home and thus being slightly sensible. The other half had already broken theirs by lunchtime, failed to find parts on the WhatsApp chat so had to return home. And then there's Stephen... Another testament to him is that this (I think) was Sid's shakedown run and apart from a couple of things catching the only "breakage" was a minor oil leak from a pipe. Seriously impressive. 2
Bowie69
Sid had done 20ft before today. Because that's how long the trailer is.

Popular Post Ed Poore
A couple of photos my other half took of the waterfall climb. @Daan getting pulled up over the final climb by Sid. Double line pull off the front of Sid to help and a single line off the rear. Stephen said the motors were too hot to touch after the effort. @Daan then pulled the LGT over the top to give Sid's winches a break. I'm grateful to @Bowie69 because I think he scalped the top off the middle that gave me on 33" just enough clearance to drive as far as they had despite being taller, longer and substantially heavier. A piccy of the climb. What isn't apparent is that various challenge trucks had sat there digging big holes before we got there. The benefit of 110" wheelbase being not that common there meant I was able to straddle the holes to a certain extent. And the heaviest vehicle up and out without too much bother although we did decide to use Daan's winch and mine from the get go rather than stop and reset. Not sure what's perplexed Pete so much?

I’ve seen something similar happen quite a bit. Where on a 90” the front wheels haven’t cleared an obstacle before the back wheels are hitting it - whereas on a 110 the back wheels can drive the front over the obstacles and then they have the front on good ground to help pull the back over. Swings and roundabouts in the end I’m sure.
Ed Poore
My only significant problem on the day was the plough on the back. I do have a proper Southdown tank guard with towing and recovery attachments but for some reason despite coming off someone's 300Tdi 110 it doesn't fit mine. I do have a custom rear cross member but it was built to the same dimensions as the original. It fits into place but if I line up the tank bolts then the others don't line up and vice versa. I did realise just before we left site that I did the whole day with Si's X Deflex engaged . I suspect the two or three times I got hung up on the tow bar if that had been disengaged I'd have had just enough traction to drive straight through. Two of them I got out by a bit of shunting and wheel turning the third needed the winch. Cheater buttons help massively though.
Popular Post Daan
I had a great day out; drove from work to wales in about 4 hours including a quick Tesco shopping and fueling stop. Some great tracks on the Saturday with all LR4x4 members. Seeing the mog axles lightweight in action was good, no failures to report (the same cannot be said of the trailer it came on). Ed is somehow able to squeeze a 110 through gaps where my car gets severely damaged. I decided to head off after the hog roast, the others decided to go back into the forest for a night drive, I opted to use the time to drive home. The drive home was quite nice, I covered 170 miles in 3.5 hours. I did notice the lights getting very low on light output and the battery condition gauge in the red. On a fuel stop the engine barely turned over, but thankfully it did fire, and got me home. New alternator time I reckon. Thanks to the shire Land Rover club for organising! 5

Bowie69
Good to meet you properly Daan, Stephen, Jake, and to revisit slightly older friends... Few things... Never believe the weather forecast and leave your door tops behind: Stephen was pleased to be there on a cool and drizzly morning: Sid is huge, before he got the apparently +5" springs: LGT seemed to take everything in his stride: ... And where there's a will, there's a way: I've a few more videos of Sid to go up, will add here shortly....

Bowie69
Tom(m)y being Tom(m)y: Still an insanely capable truck for a stocker. I heard whispers of a V8 or lumpy diesel and some bigger/better strong axles, but he is 'still for sale' 1
