MogLite
I had a tidy up of the tool-chest the other day There are 11 in there, and a sledgehammer standing next to it There are a further 3 in toolboxes/bags in the truck 15 - anyone beat that Latest addition was a 38oz dead blow - which is really rather good

Just three in my carry around tool box, ans a sledge hammer in the garage. The missus has three in the kitchen though, including one very fine rubber brewery mallet, useful for tenderising steaks, and popping the flue cover of wood burning stoves! Les Henson
I have 11, but that includes a 7lb and a 14lb sledge (for those irritating little electrical problems ) I do have a sensible selection of soft face mallets though, which account for 5. The good thing about soft mallets is that you can beat the carp out of something you've lost your temper on, but not do any damage or indeed effect any kind of repair either. Speaking from personal experience it makes no difference to the pain/injury level if you hit your thumb with either a 10oz claw hammer or a nylon head mallet. The rather unique thing about belting fingers with hammers is that although the pain is incredible, you're finger/thumb looks ok, and you blow on it!!, what's that all about? Then, when the pain stops and it feels ok again, you get a one of those blood blisteres appear from the bottom of your nail. 6-months down the line it's reached the tip of your finger and once again starts to hurt. It's a fact that a belt on the thumb from a hammer takes longer to heal than a busted leg. Les.
Jon White
Have to admit both my sledge hammers were obtained due to getting half way through a job, admitting defeat, and having to go and buy a bigger hammer to get the job done! (successfully i might add!) Jon

Jon White
So Jon, whats the difference then between a 'Hand held sledge hammer' & any other hammer surely their all hand held Imagine a big, long handled club hammer. They call it a sledge hammer in the catalogues. You can use it one handed but its hard work......... Kind of an in between between a standard club hammer and a 7lb sledge hammer.
