Paul64
Gutted for you and really very sorry to hear this Dave. I hope you do get it back soon especially after all the hard work you have put into it. I think whoever forms the next govt are going to have to take car thieving more seriously as it seems endemic in the UK

mickeyw
Do we collectively know how the thieving scum are gaining entry to our trucks? It is as simple as poor door locks being played with? Or is there evidence window breakage involved? I think Defenders aren't tech enough yet for people to break into the house and pinch the keys. I'm just trying to think of other methods of protection. Hopefully an unusual approach may be more sucessful. I know we won't stop those that are sufficiently determined
jacks906
there was no glass, plastic or paint on the floor around mine so i'm guessing a simple piece of metal between glass and door to pop the button up on the inside is how me mate thinks there getting in, mine had new barrels etc as they got buggered in the salt threw winter but mine was definately not driven away it has a straight threw pipe that wakes me mum up every time it is started, so pushed or towed away till they could drive it i guess
Paul64
A mate of mine in Romania has rerouted the cables away from the ignition to an undisclosed location in his 90 cab. Of course this would only slow someone down, but that's all any of these measures can hope to achieve. I feel gutted for Dave as I know and saw the sweat that went into his 90's rebuild, from the new galvanised chassis up. Unfortunately, I cannot imagine the insurance paying out the true value of the vehicle which makes this a double whammy

TwelvestringTrev
I have designed and build specialist Anti-Theft Immobilisation Systems for Classic Cars. (Petrol, Diesel or L.P.G.) The installation of the system involves no drilling or defacement of bodywork making the system ideal for Classics, there's no "keys", "remotes" or "keypads" to arm or disarm and you cannot forget to switch it on. The system is called I.M.P.A.C.T. which means :- Invisible Magnetic Protection Against Car Theft. 315 fitted to date and 315 people still have their treasured vehicles. I do them as d.I.Y. if anyone's interested?

sean f
Tell us more Trev. Mo But not on an open forum!! Don't forget any one can read or access the forum, details by PM would be a better idea. I think I ( and probable many others) can see now this is going to work and although I can see ways of getting round it it should be an effective and moderately cheap way of getting reasonable security especially if the would be thief didn't know to even look for it. Unless I am interpreting it wrong though it will only imobilise the engine, by the sounds (or lack of!) it the 90 at the start of the thread was stolen by towing it away, not a lot you can do to prevent that. I can think of an easy way that would take less than 10 minute be virtually silent apart from the tow vehicle used and allow you to tow for miles if needed. I am sure many others could if they think about it but not going to post it up just in case I give some little %&*$£ ideas they don't already have. jcwcooper
This is getting silly now! It seems to be at least one a week popping up on this forum alone! Just makes you wonder when it's going to stop. I know there are quite a few going missing round our area at the moment just keep praying it's not mine. Is there any pattern of what's going missing? They said in our local paper that it's between k and r reg vehicles? Good luck finding it i really hope you do! Dave.
Yostumpy
well if they take my second one I WONT be buying a third!
Retroanaconda
Is there any pattern of what's going missing? They said in our local paper that it's between k and r reg vehicles? That sounds about right. 300Tdi pre-immobiliser vehicles. 'tis indeed a sad thing. All we can do is protect our own as best as possible. Mine stays inside the garage whenever I'm not using it. jacks906
well if they take my second one I WONT be buying a third! i wont be buying a second for now anyway no way i can afford to build another one for a bit, future plans for a Td5 hard top, standard ish for laning is the way i'm thinking or disco td5, but wont be untill the insurance goes threw etc. me mates who went 2 weeks before mine is doing the same problem with all this is insurance is now doubled, £420 for me landy everything declaired, now just shy of £800 for a £650 golf diesel just have to wait. i advise everyone who has a truck to do anything, wrap a chain tight around the steering wheel and pedals, at least it may slow them down and make a racket as there removing it. i've been asking around and a friend of a friend had both his v8 trucks nicked, one at 2am ish got fired up and driven off they went out searching etc called police but it had disappeared, went back to bed at 4am ish to be woken up by his other truck being started and driven away. i've heard 10 a week are going locally
