landypc
Hi guys, I am having the s@#t ripped out of me because of the sound and loudness of the horn on my 05 spec 90 XS, even the wife and kids have started to the extent that my 5 year old said Thomas The Tank Engine had a louder hooter!!!! In all seriousness, the standard hooter is quite feeble. Is there a louder hooter that can be used as a direct swap? Help please. All answers on a post card marked for the attention of 'The Fat Controller' to the Island Of Sodor LOL Thanks guys
Dave K
Don't have a problem with the horn. Find the squeal from the brakes, usually does the trick
Gromit
Is there a louder hooter that can be used as a direct swap? Any horn will work. Just keep an ear out for one you like, take a screwdriver to it. Failing that, get an air horn
mmgemini
Scrap yard. BMW three or five series. the horns are under the font bumper. Take them both. They'll waken people up. They were good on my daughters Metro. People thought it was a big car.
Ratty43
I'd go for the air horns, had a set on my old Spitfire, the only trouble was they were loud enough to make me jump despite knowing it was going to happen.
reb78
See here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=42967 and here http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=11149&hl=air+horns I remember reading the discussion in the latter link about Miserableolgits air horns. Unfortunately his pics seem to have gone, but listen to the video linked to at the end of the first link above. My 1999 BMW 5 series horns are rather puny Mike - i wonder if they were better on the older vehicles...
mmgemini
I don't know about that. I took the horns from a Three series BMW some time ago. I put them on my daughters Metro. Then I pinched them to go onto my Defender. People do jump when I use them.

Retroanaconda
My forklift at work has a bloody loud horn, as did the old one, so one of those might do it.
mickeyw
These work rather well on my Ninety.
FridgeFreezer
Go Camel Trophy style - fit a train horn and an aircon compressor just to run it (science fact - some of them really did have this)
Happyoldgit
I fitted an American firetruck airhorn to my last Defender, I think there's a post in the Tech Archive or somewhere about it.
errol209
118dB at 2m. Pricey though. This is my favourite though - 123dBA at 1m - a touch under the threshold of pain. Loses points for not being very musical.
HiFonics
I have one of these on my 110. Straight replacement and dual tone air horns. Pretty loud too!
