Could the two banks of injectors be connected up the wrong way round? So they're all squirting just at the wrong times?

Not sure how they are supposed to be connected up so don't know if this is a possibility or not.

Which Injectors should pulse together? 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8?

I'm guessing you've got brand new fuel in it as you've done so much work to it

Ermmm nicked it from my dads fuel cans... possibly a mixture of old and new.... Maybe I should visit shell for something juicy... :moglite:

And it is not diesel... ;)

Thanks but Im not a moron.... last time i checked....

Or purchased from Tescos...

Possibly Sainsburys..... (Nicked it from my Dads fuel cans....) <_<

I would check the map, I wouldn't expect it to stay at 100 under cranking even if that might not prevent starting.

Have you checked fuel pressure?

Have to tried giving more or less fuel? I used the calculator to set mine and it was far too lean.

I would block off the idle air valve until it's rumning, it's an extra complication.

Is it earthed as they recommend, I'm told they're sensative to earthing? It's communicating with the laptop under cranking so the voltage must be ok? Mine won't run under 9v.

Can't think of anything else to throw at you right now lol

Aniesigh, It wouldn't make it not start, I promise you.

Fair enough, i believe you :)

The map sensor value is weird, as mentioned above it shouldn't read 100kpa when cranking but again that shouldn't be enough to make it not start i wouldn't think.

Think we're all going to have to wait untill you're back and can try some of the things people have mentioned

I think Dave was hinting about the fact Tescos did a load of damage to his and about 100 other peoples cars by having some caustic cleaning solution mixed in with their fuel.

PS Dave hope you've got it all sorted now.

Is it running yet?! :)

Now it is! :moglite: Think all the backfiring/unburnt fuel may have killed the narrowband sensor though..... Was idling high and revs were fluctuating 2 or 300 rpm. Definitely some work/reading to be done!

Damn! thought someone might ask..... Got a timing light on and shock 90 degrees out  Turns out the connections on the coil pack connectors that are labelled 1, 2, 3, are actually 3, 2, 1..... What the hells that about? :glare:

Here is the video of it running. Anyone know how to upload a log file? Says I dont have permission for the type of file. Tried changing the extension to jpg and putting it in a zip folder but no such luck...

Cheers

It is a great relief to have it running! Impressive that the ecu is working first time as my dad built it from scratch. Expected something not to be quite right.... Even the extra circuits for the fan control, IAC and a cold start light

Some more bits done today.

Horns work :P

Radiator fan is in which was a VERY tight fit :popcorn-and-drink-smiley-emotic Its mounted to the front panel rather than the rad and just has enough clearance to slide some cardboard in between it and the rad. Had to cut a couple of small sections out of the front grill for the bolt heads but nothing to excessive.

and side/head lights work

Exhaust bits being ordered this week...

Ah the clutch also works although with a very low bite point. I "drove" it! a few metres... :D

and the heater fan works on both speeds as well. Still lots more to be done but things are being slowly ticked off the list!

Some more bits from the weekend. My dad is making very good progress with the wiring and most of it is now done apart from the rear of the vehicle (Which I think he did a fair bit of tonight!).

I have also added another exhaust box to quieten things down and routed the exhaust to the rear. (No bitter women complaining this weekend :P )

Well my dads been busy while I'm not there again...

The rear loom has been made slid down the chassis and plumbed in. Not sure how he got the it down the chassis by himself as that was a bit tricky when we did our defenders.

Dads have ways of doing these things ? it's called experience.

I bet he's secretly chuffed that he has installed the loom without any help, or you knowing how he did it.

Excellent progress between the two of you.

Time for a little update. Has been too long!

Firstly I have rebuilt the power steering pump as it has been leaving puddles of oil on the garage floor with regular precision. Unfortunately I have now gone from 1 to 2 problems! The pump is now making a less than perfect noise which gets worse with lock especially at the end stop. I am hoping this is due to air being in the system but am currently envisaging taking the pump apart again.... The 2nd problem is that it still appears to be leaking... which I am hoping will stop... yeah I know who am I kidding! This leak is coming form the drainage hole at the from of the pump where the nose bearing is. I am hoping that this fluid is just excess from when I pushed the bearing back in but thats probably wishful thinking and means a new seal as well :glare: I didnt take any pictures of this procedure but if anyone is interested this is a good thread.

The car also now has a throttle cable. Its a combination of 200tdi and lexus but I think looks pretty factory! My dad made a clevis pin in stainless as we couldnt find the one for the pedal...

We also installed the boss in the intake pipework for the air temperature sensor. We used a product called lumiweld which seems to be pretty good. However getting the object hot enough (382 celcius) proved a challenge we couldnt quite meet and ended up heating the rod which you arent meant to do. But it seems to have worked well enough. The large bore ali pipe is a bit too good at dispensing the heat or my patience doesnt last long enough :P

We have also been having a little experiment with removing rust using electrolysis and all seems appears to be going well albeit slowly as we are only using 0.5 to 1.2 amps. There are some dismantled seat rails in the tank at the moment. So here is a lovely picture for you!
