  1. Sounds like now is the time to drop a 200 in I'm afraid, by the time you have faffed about removing the TD then rebuilt it... you can get a moribund disco for not much money now Mike
  2. Well, we got there for 10 and were on our way back by 11, very glad we didn't travel far for it, was great to meet a few other members off here but all in was pretty disappointing, probably won't be going next time - I'll stick to sodbury Mike
  3. Yes definately worth it, I used 2 spanners for years but it makes life much easier, usually have mine on an air ratchet though
  4. Hi I'd look at whats wrong with your brakes first? A defender with standard discs all round should stop like its hit a brick wall! As above the vented discs are only an upgrade if you run into cooling probs eg lots of heavy towing in a hilly area... Stainless hoses are a good idea as they are fit and forget Mike
  5. If you were local I'd suggest returning it, that may prove more of a ballache from where you are though... those locks are pretty universal so your local hardware store should have something suitable? I guess the alternative would be to sell it on and get another? The mobile storage solutions ones appear popular? Mike
  6. hmmm can you not ask him to add the funds to your nigerian lottery win?
  7. Yup, you'd need to remove it anyway to improve access, buy a new set of mounts for it as well as you're unlikely to take them alive if your xmember is rusty Mike
  8. as above make sure its plenty longer than the longest car you'll be working on, so that you always have an escape route if it catches fire for example. The prospect of being trapped in a pit under a car fire is not one I'd like to think about!
  9. ahhh I think I see your problem, the wing is not out 'up and down' its twisted, if you imagine rotating the wing around the headlight hole it should line up, being a relatively flimsy panel with a heavyish end there is plenty of 'give' when refitting, just manipulate it until the holes line up Mike
  10. Hi Going to Silverdale this weekend if anyone else is going? Mike
  11. Yup the 2nd shock sits in front of the stock one not outboard of it Mike
  12. Hi I assume that the bulkhead is in the correct place, and the wings are fixed at the bulkhead end, and that the front panel is fixed? I have always found that the holes don't line up exactly and you need to use a wiggle bar (steel pointy thing) to line the holes up How far out are they? mine were as much as an inch in places as the wings moved around! Mike
  13. Hello Can't help with the electrics (although I would suspect your split charge system) but the wobble is likely to be one or more of bearings/swivel pins/radius arm bushes/panhard rod bushes/wheel weight, or as a long shot does it have a front diff lock fitted? The thing to do is to jack up the front safely and check all of the above Mike
  14. how about putting some scabby old steel wheels on the 110 (no tyres) to get some headroom (i have done this to change chassis before you end up with approx 1.5" under the sals diff!) then put the sankey in backwards, tie it to the roof (or sit it on a mezzanine type subframe) take its wheels off, you might then have enough space to drive the 110 under it. you have approx 1m to play with, then 1m for the bonnet so might get away with it Mike
  15. if they are tubed they are likely to be the imperial size 205, which is 205/100/16 which is approx 32", 235/85/16 is also approx 32" so you should be fine especially given the short distance you are planning, there wont be any wind up as the diff can cope with a difference! In an emergency you can always fit a different size tyre and inflate it til they look level (NB emergency off the public road only, low speed etc... no I am not condoning driving dangerously etc etc  ) Do they do the AT2 in 255/85? Mike
  16. erm 3 pieces of advice 1. take your time and use the D roads, as the autoroutes are expensive and whilst they are usually traffic free and great for covering distance you see more of france going on the D roads 2 always keep a full-ish tank, the whole country grinds to a halt on sundays so finding fuel may be tricky, your card may or may not work at the unattended garages! 3 France is beautiful but my particular recommendations are to visit Fontainbleau (big forest full of boulders for climbing - kids love it so do climbers!), theres a great campsite at Milly-La-foret, and around Dijon is fantastic too, My wife and I spent 4 weeks travelling round living in the 110 going climbing, if you take a hammock and have a roof rack you only need to find 1 tree for instant accommodation! You may find that the local Carrefour hypermarket sells all sorts of useful things for the landy too... Enjoy it Mike
  17. looking good, you could be a tart like me and paint them now to stop them going rusty again! Mike
  18. Welcome to the forum You will find a mine of information in the tech archive, a good read of this would be a good idea before you go looking, best thing to do is take your time there are plenty around (and plenty of cr@p) and take a friend with you who knows their landys Good luck with the search Mike
  19. You should be fine, I'm fairly certain they aren't allowed to charge any fee despite what their terms and conditions say. Its starting to read like how to ruin your company's repuattion in 5 easy steps this I have bought from them before and apart from a few minor "kwality" vs OEM swaps and one veeery long delay on an order I thought they were ok Mike
  20. Why not spend a couple of quid extra and buy GKN/Hardy Spicer OEM UJs, you'd get your money back in 6 months... as above vice is better for changing them
  21. wheres the vomiting emoticon when you need it....
  22. Yup I drilled mine along the top of the rail and tapped them to M6, galv pipe clips secured with M6 BZP bolts coated in waxoyl then painted over the top Mike
