  1. Looks like a Ist Century BC Celtic torc. Can't think what it might be doing in your bell housing
  2. Fully synthetic oil is great if the engine is properly bedded in but I wouldn't run it if you've just re-ringed/rehoned the engine or it is a new build. It will smoke like a chimney and you will get glazed bores and loss of power
  3. "They all do that Sir!" Is this engine new to your ownership? Nice clean insides or dark and stained with a million mile history of no oil changes?
  4. ABS systems have taken over control of braking so you could argue that there is already braking by wire there. Any mechanical operation has been electronically decoupled. If the ABS ECU decides that all four wheels are locked it will release pressure But with the steer by wire, why not have another electrical system to go wrong. Actually, I rather like the possibilities presented by the electronic power steering in the Corsas
  5. You'll only find out the cheap stuff is carp when it is too late and the oil light is on. Think Automotive would be a good place to shop if you want to know the providence of what you are buying
  6. Give it a few years and all the Chelsea tractors will be made this way, no sign of the general public getting less fat or cars getting smaller Sub woofer in the chassis rails innit!
  7. I've been using a (Silverline ) pond pump on a small Myford cylindrical grinder. I know the coolant/water ratio is much lower for grinding but it has lasted surprisingly well and cost peanuts
  8. Frankly I wouldn't be too optimistic about mounting a defence for vehicles to go over the causeway when you see it in a state such as shown in these recent pictures. Whatever happened to treading lightly. It's trashed
  9. Climbing boot rubber will be excellent on painted surfaces, assuming it isn't wet paint! It has the advantage of working well from cold provided it is clean Stealth C5 is a popular trade name. You should be able to get supplies of this from the various people that resole climbing shoes The formulation is a closely guarded secret but all of the popular climbing shoe rubbers work really well
  10. I used the Innovate LC1 and kept it separate from MS as there were two different readings when I fed the WB into MS. Since we use the LC1 on the dyno I was inclined to believe it and not the MS. 4 years on and nothing has melted. Unless you have psychic abilities I don't see how you can get results anywhere as quickly with NB on a V8 without using practically the cost of a WB in fuel. Happy to be educated though
  11. I have a good friend who is an Assistant Editor on the Telegraph and one time LR owner. He has explained the ramifications of this to their motoring desk who will look into it
  12. I had to have my Russian truck LPG installation inspected for insurance purposes. He was generally complimentary about the installation (critical of two of three cable tie ends not clipped off and my second-hand but perfectly good vapouriser). Total cost £65. Luckily there was no grovelling about on the ground to see the tank plate and all of the other hardware was easily visible I used Energy Shift in Ashford Kent. Very knowledgeable and helpful, I suspect there was also an element of wanting to come and see the truck!
  13. Have you tried doing a plug cut when it is pinking?
  14. I disagree that rolling over and taking it is the only recourse. If we all make enough noise and present a sensible case we will get where we want to be. Where is your Dunkirk spirit?
  15. Sounds like a huge assumption that a roadside officer anywhere in the EU will be able to understand the technicalities of the roadworthiness documents relative to the vehicle in front of him/her. This document will be in how many languages? How big will this book be? How will a motorcyclist carry this book? Never let it be said that the EU is shy of printing paperwork, paperwork and yet more paperwork!
  16. Two or five sound plausible. have you access to a timing light?
  17. Yes, excellent work Nick! Thank you.
  18. Is that particular gasket absolutely the correct part for that particular flavour of V8?
  19. Nick, To save time, can you word it such that the subject has been debated by a group of individuals on the LR4x4 Land Rover Internet Forum? Be terrible to miss the deadline because Mods couldn't agree on a policy quick enough. Once again, thank for taking the initiative on this and pressing on so quickly
  20. Excellent Nick. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to go through this and add a great deal of clarity to the cloudiness.
  21. You've got to be a banker to afford that kind of ludicrosity
  22. Take the rings ( top and second) off off the piston carefully with a feeler gauge and fit the rings into the bore one at a time and measure the gap in the rings. That will give a good indication on how worn the 'new' rings may be. Haynes book of lies should give figures for this. Unless you have access to a Bowers type internal micrometer measuring the bores properly is difficult. If this is a freshly built engine you should see the cross hatching left by honing clearly in the bores. You don't want to be seeing a bald and polished patch and no cross hatching on the thrust side of each bore. The piston skirts shouldn't be showing evidence of wear. £1500 is border line for parts on a V8 if you are going to do everything properly. I reached this easily when costing out a rebuild for my 3.5 in my 110 and I can get everything trade
  23. I've never heard of line boring white metal shell bearings. Line bore the housing that the bearing is pressed into sure but not the bearing itself. If anything, mark the cam journals with engineers blue and lightly hand scrape if it is tight. To be honest that bearing doesn't look that bad, I've seen a lot worse that ran without issue. Have you measured the clearance?
  24. Re-reading your thread title Nige, IW 058 isn't a PICO injector, PICO type is a 4 jet short body injector. IW 058 is a single jet Bosch style long beasty
