  1. We tend to keep the tanks full on the cars - or as full as possible. The modus has a tank full of E5 that I can remove and put in the Vitara. The Dub is full and the Disoc is mostly full. I'm out on site tomorrow - but not far from home. Out on Saturday for marshaling - if it happens.
  2. It does seem to mainly an urban problem. Although there are so few fuel stations left , out in the sticks, that being rural isn't as much of a blessing as one could wish.
  3. Try a Donaldson head first - it's relatively hig maintenance and does need a snorkel to fit to. Option two would be to go Aussie style and fit a precleaner up on the roof - 200Tdi syle would do
  4. That was because in heavy foliage, leaves get sucked accross the face of the intake. Early CT were all mushroom heads (upto 1990 Discovery), which, due to the centrifugal effect, spin out any water ingested Facing foward you do get a lot of rain water intake - wheras backwards it is reduced somewhat. With a Donaldson type. all the water ingested, is spun out and then leaves through a drain hole in the head
  5. 11 200tdi powered vehicles since 1991 - always fitted Valeo or Borg & Beck. Did fit a coupleof HD units but they just have stiffer springs in the basket. My 100" is still going on the clutch I fitted in 2004 and it's done well over 200k since then - in Africa. That was a Valeo
  6. Both Britaprt and Bearmach are selling SS as the preffered option. Quality is carp, bends are 1/3" smaller than the pipe, which is 2.25" instead of 2.5" and it's barely thicker than tin foil. Not 316 either
  7. I'd keep the Disco as a motorway hauler and rebuild the 110 as is - it's not like it wasn't rebuilt a short while ago and the Disco is in particualrly good nick. Added to which, you aren't getting any younger
  8. Did you seal up the drain plug in the air box? It should never be sealed - ever
  9. Find a local stainless steel pipe fitter - someone who does food grade 316 pipe installs - offer him/her/they cash Our local chap produces work that is almost too good to put on a vehicle, for very little money
  10. Maybe he was staring to realise he had been taken for a ride....
  11. How about running a compressor unit from an old stationary engine?
  12. You may say that, but actually, Boobsontheroad is also in the planning stage
  13. Hell aye - just as strong as ever. Boobsfest 2 has just finished, with 3,4 and 5 being planned for 2022. The weekly zoom gathering has happened every week since the first lockdown. We have members in Saudi and in Portland, as well as The North of England!
  14. An old friend - weho had a misspent youth, always says " locks are for keeping honest people out" But he also says "security is about delaying the thief" Fast removal of a padlock is generally done by cutting the lock hasp. or by destroying the key barrel. The latter is simple to creat delay - just use a combination lock. Having said that, no one is going to want to steal your sweaty bedding. They will want the RTT. RTT's are worth money on the second hand market, due to the huge over-pricing on the 1st hand market (it's a big profit game). Think how fast the mounting bolts or roofbars/rack can be removed
  15. Of course you could just grow a beard - this would then qualify you for membership of our select club
  16. I know of a G wagen chassis, with axles, box and very, very low power lump. The axles are good and low geared. Whole lot is about 2k
  17. I used to go to every Ao show, but after a falling out with the organiser in Spet 2019, decided not to go again. Roll forward to 2021 and no lock down, the Club I usually go with decided to go to Nash Oaklands on the same weekend as AO in June and then again this last weekend. So much nicer. I can't recommend Nash enough. Next year we will be stretching to three 'get togethers'. Invite only. One will be just outside Stockton on Tees; so that Mike Gemini and his wife Margaret can come and see us. At least one of the others will be at Nash - the other may be a road trip around the Southwest, involving Interesting museums, cider and food. I simply can't see the point in going to shows if you have a group of friends. The traders are keen to make a profit, so there are no deals - and let's be fair, most traders really haven't got a clue. I have no interest in most of the things on display at shows - especially flashing led's, wanna be blue light impressionists, over tyred and under designed vehicles and over priced, pointless bling. Much rather be sitting in a field, with good friends, having a laugh
  18. First time I drove a Fast Trac, I just about filled my trousers. Hauling soil out of a site in Exeter. I'd been on it a week, driving an MB Trac 150. Big Heavy and steady. Came in to find a brand spankers Fast Trac on the dump trailer. Filled up, just as I would have the MB. Down the hill from site, turned into the lower site, off the tarmac. Except it didn't turn....
  19. She has a 270 engine which is a similar output but better torque pattern. Suits the gearbox and visa versa. She's fine up the few hills we have round here. She has an air system for the trailer air brakes. To be fair she barely notices it - folk have got so used to hugh overpowered tractors, they forget that for years a 'big' tractor was 75/80hp. Years ago when I was contracting I had a Ford 4600. It had 16K hours on it, yet would still happily pull 320 small bales up long steep hills. Best tractor I ever owned was only 107bhp (MF3090). All this silliness about 200bhp plus stuff, when a 100bhp tractor would do it just as well
  20. Did you notice the front bumper of the Series?
  21. Most tractors tow big weight well on the road. Same as a Mog. A mog will happily pull 20tonnes without the tail wagging the dog My favourite tractor towing set up is a MF165 (with 270 engine), tri axle plant trailer (20foot and 3 tonnes empty) with a six tonne zero swing excavator on . Alternatively, replace the 165 with A Bolinder-Munktell 600 (Volvo) - but that's because I can)
  22. We tend to get multiples (more than one fatal) when folk think an artic will just bounce off the rear bumper. Generally the survivors have life changing injuries. Off course Smart Motorways don't help, nor do Dual carriageways with no hard shoulder. Nasty fatal a few weeks ago, on a set of duals, with a pick up hitting a broken down car. High speeds were involved. Oddly enough we don't get a lot of fatals on the county roads round here - most are death by drowning of motocyclists who die form being the crumple zone
