  1. That's what I was referring to with "hi lift". 🙂
  2. Would you get enough swing on the handle for a hi lift underneath? Unless you're attacking from the top... I found liberal application of grease helped slide mine back in. So to speak.
  3. I get the idea that more "stuff" = more "stuff" to go wrong, but even in an overlanding situation I can't see how your radio or heated rear screen breaking is going to leave you stranded. The only windows I've ever had go u/s were manual winders.... I'd rather have comforts for even a short while than not at all. The idea of a completely stripped out car for the sake of it just seems unnecessary to me.
  4. Seems they're still doing that, in a fashion:
  5. That video can't be right, where's the loud clicking noises that you can't track down? 😡
  6. I was going to say it's not cheap, but surely even a cosmetic restoration plus vehicle cost can't leave much out of 12k.
  7. I did hijack one of Nak's threads last year with a couple of single DIN alternatives with bigger/double DIN screen sizes I'd tried. I don't know if it was all that useful or interesting but I did end up with a decent enough screen.
  8. What's the mpg?
  9. I have a 1.2 and it takes a pretty steep hill to slow it down. If anything I wish I had a 6th gear on the motorway. Do you 1.4s not find it difficult for cruising?
  10. I do enjoy it when people do very hard tasks like fitting a third axle, all the mounts and chassis modifications, extending the bodywork etc. then they go full Can't Be Arsed mode on the last hurdle.
  11. I've seen Discos driving around in a less finished/roadworthy state than that. Not quite as shiny or straight though.
  12. My first thought was that it looked like LGT.
  13. Interesting, the Snatch ones mounted via the bull bar, never seen this kind of mount. Not sure I like it but I guess it's function over form.
  14. You and half the country. 4x4 Tyres has them as backorder-only for qty over 1.
  15. Just one thought, how original/complete is the car? It sounds like a factory V8 (assuming station wagon, haven't seen any photos). Prices for completely standard factory V8s are some of the highest (accounting for age and mileage) so before making anything too permanent, you might want to consider ways forward. They're not quite collectors items yet, but the more that get modified, the closer we get. I'm all for doing what you want with your own car, but I try not too think about how much value I wiped off mine.
  16. This is an experiment I am currently running. I don't know when I'll be publishing the results but I'll be sure to update the forum.
  17. I bought my 4.0 for £600 then spent well over 2k on it chasing my clicking. It was absolutely not worth it.
  18. But at their earliest, you're talking about vehicles separated by 6 years. 2020 is 36 years on. Of course it moved on since then. .....I wish this thread would.
  19. Contact your bank and whatever equivalent of Action Fraud you have. Edit: wait, if you haven't received the cheque then how have you fallen for it?
  20. It could be interesting in any case. Most of the advice I've seen or read is to go at it with new parts until the clicking stops.
  21. I found my engine doesn't care much about missing leads. This sounds like a good thing except it makes diagnosing rough running very difficult. I had one hanging fully off the plug lying on the exhaust manifold, only difference it made was.... a loud ticking noise. What I'm saying is don't worry too much about how well it runs without leads. Either way you're finding problems that won't help and need to be fixed.
  22. I have standard Puma heated XS seats, I always think I should upgrade them but they just work. Interestingly the TD5 ones used to give me terrible lower back ache but these are fine for hours on end. Seat covers protect them well. The heating was useful in January, especially worth it for the reactions when informing my fellow off roaders why I wasn't getting out of the car.
