As some of you may know, I live in France and things here are different in many ways... One of those things that are different is how buying used trailers goes. I needed one and, as a new one was out of the question, it would be looking on line. In France, LeBonCoin is the place to look for anything and loads and loads of used trailers came up. So, one sents a message through the LB system and then waits for a reply from the seller who eagerly wants to sell the trailer. And waits.. And waits some more... Experience has told me that sellers post an add, sell the thing and forget / can't be bothered to take it down. Go on Holiday. etc. So, when #7 seller responded and actually communicated I had no choice but to go and get it. A 720 km. (about 460 miles) roundtrip to collect this one. I was happy with the trailer and the new to me Discovery did what it should do. France is a big country....

Modded vehicles in France / IVA in UK
Arjan replied to HoSS's topic in Modified Vehicle Builds & Special Projects
Fuel Type changes are a bit of a challenge here, to say the least. Depending on your language skills - you must speak French, your patience and the local DREAL (formerly DRIRE) you have a small chance. As the UK has left the EU, you have lost a lot of legal leverage to get things done as some lawyers have taken the DREAL / Importers to court based on some EU legislation and did get some weird vehicles on FR plates. Unless the Hilux is really worth it, I'd suggest to sell it and get a simular FR plated one and drive it. -
Obviously, it is totally up to you but for road work I'd stick to a close to standard as possible. No lift, nothing on the roof, keep weight down and best possible maintenance. Good shocks - I'm into Koni - and decent road tires should help you having a nice drive. Good Luck !

Defender 90 2.5TD full body replacement
Arjan replied to Lockylockwood's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Nothing too wrong with that.. I have to replace my rear tub on the Series as somebody ran into it and we sourced 2 bodies to make 1. Ultra does new rear Series bodies and will do Defender ones, too, soon they claim. Be sure to sit down before opening the price list though.... -
Overland caravan build
Arjan replied to miketomcat's topic in Modified Vehicle Builds & Special Projects
Clixtar is a sale name for Veldhuizen trailers" in Loosdrecht, Holland. Many, many years ago they found an interesting EU bit of law and have been building very interesting B+E solutions since then. Have a look here if you want to see some weird stuff : https://veldhuizen.nl/ They now also do C stuff, tractors and the likes. You'll find them everywhere in Europe these days -

Reception/signal/data booster for use on a LR in the UK
Arjan replied to RHaughton's topic in International Forum
If you're looking into "boosting" your mobile phone signal you have to be very careful as things have changed a lot in Europe. We used to have some serious - Motorola made - hardwired into the various RR's & LR's in the '90 (ATM - analogue) and later GSM (digital) and modern networks do not like "boosted" signals as it totally %#$~@ the systems and often results in said IMEI to be shut out for a while. If you want 99 % cover, get a SatPhone. We use them a lot and some work for data. Not too fast, but for simple E-mail traffic it works. -
Universal electrics for old cars
Arjan replied to Sigi_H's topic in Modified Vehicle Builds & Special Projects
Very interesting so please keep it coming. However, there always is one..... A major problem with all the conversions is legality.... I have left only a few LR's and 1 could e a god candidate for an E-motor conversion. But one can't do it DIY here as only at the time of writing 2 companies can do this. And the amount of €€€ involved make it a big no go. Not to mention us mere mortals living out in the deep dark Auvergne where 3 phase is getting rare and solar panels can't be integrated into the grid.. -

Give Pioneer a call

Yes, it will affect the cooling. Yes, LEDs will give more light for less current The Tdi loves good cooling - we live in FR and it also gets hot here and the Tdi's sure feel that when you have good measuring equipment. I'd suggest to adjust speed to vision if possible.

Get the MultiMeter out and have 15 min. to see what wire does what. Solder the extensions (sleeve them) and make it waterproof somewhere inside the vehicle so you have no issues en route to the socket. Some people fill the socket once everything is teste with epoxy or the likes to water proof it. In the end, of the 13 pins, usually "only" 7-9 are used.
