    D1 Seats

The Seats in my disco are a little on the tired side after 165000 miles, so I am thinking about ways to improve them. Option 1 is to get new foams from the likes of exmoor trim, which seems like reasonable value, but I think the back foam needs similar treatment, and that is not available... Also are they easy to do, or is it an expert upholstery job? Option 2 is to Try and find another pair which arn't as knackered (anyone got a decent set of front seats in Beige kicking around?) - Are 3 and 5 Door seats the same? Option 3 is to replace them with something a little more comfortable and supportive. The usual bucket seat discussions could ensue, but I quite like the idea of a semi-bucket reclining seat out of a hot hatch or something... Has anyone else changed the seats in a disco? If so I am assuming it is just a question of modding the runners on the donor seat to fit the disco bases (nb 3 door, so tilting base...)... So opinions and experiences sought, and also a set of seats of some description.... Cheers Mark
  2. Jules I have some on my disco, but I have no idea where they came from - might even be genuine LR - they were on the truck when I bought it. Could be worth a search on the bay of e? Mark
  3. Only way I have found is to buy the appropriate parts catalogue in paper form. a bit spendy, but worth its weight in IMHO. Mine came from someone on eBlag...
  4. I have the Southdown system (bought second hand form a forum member) and am very pleased with it. The bash plate stands up to the abuse and the tow bar takes less than 5 minutes to fit. I also have a dixon bate adjustable tow bar on it, so the height can be changed quickly too. I have to admit it is a little bit rattley, but that is just the nature of these things. Can do a picture if you like? Cheers Mark
  5. Unfortunately, Graham is no longer involved with Autocraft, although the bodyshop is still there, and they are a good bunch of guys. I believe Graham has moved down to the west country... Cheers Mark
  6. Thats the Machinery's Handbook Guide... The actual Machinery's Handbook is over £50...
  7. Very true rog, but for normal everyday drilling and tapping and/or threadcutting the zeus book has pretty much everthing you need. I always keep the zues book to hand in my machine shop, and rarely need to go elsewhere for that sort of information... Mark
  8. Indeed it is true, but we keep them well hidden - mine looks an awful lot like a rusty 16 year old 200TDI Discovery ..... :P
  9. Does that not depend on whether you are on the bus or in the field???
  10. Wonder if you can get clip-on goggles??? I always wear my (prescription) safety specs and generally find goggles a pita...
  11. Dan, the inverter type plasmas are the much newer type, right? Just checking, as I don't think the one I have bought is even close to state of the art - basically it's a big transformer as far as I can tell, so i shouldn't come accross the same issues as you have had ... Anyone got a recomendation of what shade goggles to use with plasma? was looking at something around shade 5 - my speedglas helmet only goes down to 9... just checking Mark
  12. Adrian, I am looking forward to having a go this weekend with your one I have to admit that I won this on eBlag last night, and hence the questions Am pretty certain it won't be operational by the weekend though, but if I have collected it by then, I will bring it over anyway! Mmmmm plasma... Mark
  13. I am curious about plasma cutters... Firstly, what is a push start plasma cutter? and can you still get parts for older machines? Cheers Mark
  14. What size tyres are you running? I am going to put a defender (1.4) transfer box on my disco when I go up to 235/85 16 tyres (~same diameter as 750-16s) so if I were you I would stick with the 1.4 t-box Mark
  15. Doesn't look anything like my 200tdi disco one... Disco one doesn't have the extra pipe tee'd into the output, and the side entry is at the other end, about 2/3rds of the way along. Sorry, I don't know what it is, but I am pretty damned sure it is not a 200 disco filter. Mark
  16. I found that buying a rusty disco, followed by fixing your brothers rusty rangie gets you reasonably good quite quick! I also found the value of proban overalls, and a leather apron pretty damned quick too... even in the sweltering hot summer I will wear the proban overalls, gloves, and put the apron over any bit of me that could get sparked when lying underneath. As has been said - it's a practice thing. I am afraid I can't tell you what I did other than to fiddle with the settings, and try untill it just goes, and as Dan said, one day it will just happen... ...I'll let you know when it does for me! Cheers Mark
  17. Just to echo what has already been said, but thanks Chris for organising a really good run round the plain! some really good lanes and enough clues to keep my navigator occupied!!! Good to team up with richard and jon again, and really good to meet Jos and Kim. Good to catch up with everyone else too! am looking forward to the next one Well done chris...
  18. Crikey!!! I came down the A281 on my way home and came across the fire engines etc and figured there had been an accident - there have been two or three at that exact spot in the past few months. I am utterly gobsmacked to find out it was your truck! I hope the insurance gets close to the value of the kit on the truck let alone the hours you have put into it... Mark
  19. I think the freespool on my 80 needs some imporvement myself - Disengaging the gear train is no problem and works really well, but you also need to hold the pawl off the brake ratchet to get it to spool properly. Having modified my freespool lever, I am trying to come up with a way of being able to disengage the brake pawl that also then re-engages when you re-engage the geartrain - ie so that the whole thing works off the freespool lever...
  20. firdge, link goes to the mag bashing thread...
  21. Did you send him a link to this thread??? I would be really interested (if somewhat unsympathetic) to hear the view from the otherside....
  22. Dosn't show much, but here's mine a la gwynn lewis... it's a bit buried into the grille, so isn't particularly clear, but the shafts of the screws are against the edge of the circlip stopping it moving out, and obvioulsy the heads stop it moving along the shaft. Has taken some real stick like this, whereas before it would spit the circlip on a regular basis...
  23. Seems a shame Exmoor only do stuff for defender or series seats. I need to do something with the disco ones, as both the back and the base are screwed... anyone have any suggestions for discoverys while we are on the topic? ta Mark
  24. Cool, that sounds easier than I was expecting. thanks chaps. Mark
  25. Ok, I have to fit a new hose between the power steering pump and the steering box tonight. Do I need to bleed it once I have it all connected up? I presume I do, so can anyone give me some pointers? Ta Mark
