  1. I am vaguely planning to build some form of raised air intake for the disco, but am debating what sort of size tube to use... The Mantec snorkel I have looked at seems to use about 3" diameter tubing. The Southdown one seems to use 2.5" tubing. Is 2.5" big enough for a 200TDI? It seems slightly small to me, but I would appreciate any other opinions on what sort of size would be best. Cheers Mark ps. Nige, I am not convinced that 8" heavy wall CDS is the forward, before you suggest it...
  2. Have a look in the Tech archive - there are at least 2 (possibly 3) wirteups of other people's take on this.. enjoy Mark
  3. Not sure if it is any help at all, but on a disco and a rangie, the tow bar and jate rings use points like this: they are a tube welded underneath the chassis with side plates, rather than through it. Even if it's not how it's done on yours, it would be fairly easy to make some if you needed. I had to replace the tubes on mine, as the bolts from the old tow bar were rusted in, and it wasn't a big job to do. hope that helps a little bit? Cheers Mark
  4. I'll second the vote for Teng, but I have always used stanley dynagrip screwdrivers as they fit my hand really nicely and are decent quality. Halfords professional stuff is also good - they do an adatpter that lets you fit normal driver bits into a 10mm ratchet spanner, which gives you rather a lot of twist for a normal screw head! If the screws are held in with loctite or threadlock of some description then a bit of heat should soften the adhesive up. Chemical metal is usually epoxy based, which seems a little extreme to hold a screw in place... Hope that helps Mark
  5. Another vote for Spirawrap - also available from Vehicle Wiring Products
  6. Sorry for the thread hijack, but Deano, did you get the direct replacement version that is shown on the website, or a bigger one? Just curious ta Mark
  7. I am planning to come up with the Pinz boys... guess I should book at some point... we are vaguely planning to camp with whatever forum contingent ends up there Cheers Mark
  8. Welcome to the madhouse. you appear to have already found out that land rovers don't like to be alone, and seem to mulitply... wherabouts in sussex are you?
  9. Les did this to a 200 tdi disco one to fit into catflap. might be worth a check in the tech archive?
  10. As has been mentioned it's a fiddly job, and seemed to involve taking the entireity of the front door apart - including removing the window frame! It's not had, just fiddly!
  11. You can use wider offset rims in comps though - and it would be a lot cheaper to knock the centre's out of some disco rims, reverse them and weld them back where you wanted them than getting special shafts made up??? just a thought
  12. Have you got Aircon? if not then you should have a spare groove on the crank pulley. You could then use the aircon mmounting point (4 tapped posts) to make some kind of bracket and tensioning affair? This does mean the pump will be pretty high up though, and my give you issues with the reservoir? just a thought Mark
  13. Mo, When I bought my Bowrope I was told that the 8274 drum should take 125' (38m) of 12mm... you end up with a very full drum if you do though, so I would be inclined to go for 100' and an extension... Mark
  14. You will find that the timing chest is different too, as the power seering pump is in a different place (I think). Certainly the internals of the timing case are different, as the defender only has the tensioner pulley, whereas the disco has the tensioner pulley and an idler pully. Personally, I would go for rebuilding the one you have. if you can do it yourself, and know that you have done it well, it is time well spent as far as I am concerned.
  15. Jerry, Probably worth a look at the Tech Archive Article cheers Mark
  16. loads of usefull items to help you vapour build guys finish your trucks!!! tooling...
  17. Maybe a soundproofing kit would be a better option??

    Bah Humbug

I would be inclined to do a search on both subjects... however, in summary: timing belf snapping won't be _that_ bad - bent pushrods will be the worst bit. Zues timing gears - steer well clear.... I am sure more comprehensive replies will follow though... Cheers Mark

    diff lock

    yep. full time 4WD...
  20. I love My series IIa, don't ge me wrong, but I don't think I have actually driven it since I got my disco on the road... The IIa is at least twice as complicated for electrics as the quoted series 1 though - there's 2 fuses!
