  1. Laser 3736 Heavy Duty Riveter, Nut Riveter and Lock Bolt Kit £108.00 not too bad I suppose. It says it does rivnuts up to m12. I like the look of that, may have to wait for a vat free day. Just looked on Ebay they are £99, And I can get 15% off.
  2. Welcome to the forum, I've not heard about it. Have you contacted your main dealer? Over here DVLA have a section you can check to see if there are any recalls for your vehicle.
  3. Welcome to the forum. I believe the 300Tdi is a straight swap, it was the 200 that was slightly different. When you say the engine blew up! what has gone on it? Most things are repairable.
  4. What we need to do is manufacture a body kit that resembles the Grenadier but fits onto a Discovery one rolling chassis for people like me who won't be able to afford one for twenty years.
  5. I find the Bearmach ones alright, but have you read this post in the tech archive?
  6. I've never yet failed to shift one by running the nut to the end of the thread, putting my knees behind it to pressure it towards me then hitting the nut with a lump hammer and drift. worse case was having to use a release agent into the splines.
  7. I have a Charlie which is Henry's bigger brother, over twenty five years of abuse. I don't bother with a bag just the filter. as said above it has wet and dry capabilities. Yes it will block occasionally normally if trying to pick up longer bits which wedge into the tube corrugations. I also have a Henry I use at work as it's more convenient. I thought I had killed the Henry as I had it smoking one day, but it is still going.
  8. Somebody else who hates that expression. What is a "bad"? I've had a bad back, bad luck but never just a "bad".
  9. If the transfer box has gone it can be replaced without changing the gearbox, Is the garage you went to Land Rover friendly? A ticking noise could be a universal joint gone on a prop-shaft. I would get a second opinion from somebody who deals with Land Rovers.
  10. The rubber face which faces out on the outside has a dimple running along it. The one groove holds the glass another fits over the lip of the frame and the edge with the dimple covers the gap.
  11. There are numerous threads on this, one fairly recently. It is not difficult ideally two of you, I replaced the rubber on a ninety during a camping weekend a fortnight ago. Just make sure you have the rubber the right way.
  12. I thought Land Rover used BMW engines in their range, were they any worse than their own offerings?
  13. With something like the ball hitch you can sling a snatch block or strop over it quite easily. I also have some old pulleys which I made into a pulley block which works well for lighter items. I have also moved vehicles around with a long bar on a wheel nut, just make sure you are on the right side for the direction your are moving. and a brick to stop it rolling back.
  14. I bolted an old tow ball to the floor which proved useful.
  15. I forgot to mention with the seat backs folded flat I could not shut the door so replaced the interior grab handle with a strap made from webbing, you can see one on the front door pane,l as I replaced them to keep it looking the same.|Another problem is accessing the door lock buttons when the seat are folded forward so I am fitting a remote system as some one recommended on another post.
  16. I made a box section frame and bolted the pivot points onto, with 25mm box section to support the rear. the original seat back catches I relocated with some angle section and used the disco seat catch plates by turning then around on their fixings and swapping side to side. They fold forward to the rear of the front seats reasonably well. The front seats I altered a pair of hinges to fix to both the seat holes and the original defender seat box at the rear whilst lifting the rear of the seat above the back of the box allowing the adjusters full range. At the front of the seat I removed the section that was riveted on and bolted an 25mm box section cut as a wedge with holes which correspond again to the original seat box positions. I made locating pins from 8mm bolts cutting the head off and drilling for an "R" clip. They hinge back allowing good access to both tool box and battery compartment.
  17. The ignition switch is a common fault and they are not expensive or difficult to replace if you want to keep the original key you can just change the switch block on the back.
  18. I would check that the fan hasn't seized in front of the aircon rad.
  19. There has been lots of different seat fitted in the second row of a 110, two front seats on a seat box is quite common and you will probably find a write up on the forum somewhere. I fitted rear seats from a Discovery 1 in mine having made a rail to mount the pivots too. they give basically the same rear legroom as the originals but have no adjustment.
  20. I have popped that in my watch list and will message them to see if they do a five unit set. At that price it's not worth trying to salvage from another vehicle.
  21. I wonder how good the articulation is? As it has parabolics front and rear.
  22. Specifications sound good, 3l diesel, full diff locks twin reduction gears. All it needs is a Defender body transplanted.
  23. Valve clearances should be checked by the rule of nine. " Turn the engine until any tappet goes fully down. Count the valves from the front of the engine to that valve, take that number from nine, then count to that number from the front of the engine again and adjust that valve."
  24. I would double check all your timing marks before you use the starter, there should be compression resistance when turning but the clicking could be valve contact if your injectors are loose there should be no resistance.
