  1. 350bhp and 570ft lb - yank v8 diesel powerstroke ! But it'll be out your budget and full of electrics. Mine tows beautifully. G
  2. Cheers. Spent yesterday machining with a 1 1/2hp single phase motor on the colchester student. Worked ok all things considered. Before and after of one part of the job : Then had spacers, brake discs and a big retention washer to machine. Finished with : Shopping for a 3phase convertor and motor tomorrow. G
  3. Thanks Simon. What would you say about the invertek unit i put a link to above. I'm tempted to go get one tomorrow if he's open ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290735890990?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 I like your idea of a socket, would make life nice and easy. G
  4. Evening, Well......we managed to burn out either the motor or the antique 3 phase convertor on our colchester student lathe today. I think it was the motor, as it smells a bit down the back of the lathe.....then we were trying to start it and we fried a couple of resistors in the 3 phase convertor. It was a really old thing. SO..... How am i best running my lathe ? Single phase or 3 phase with convertor (or invertor, you tell me the preferred way) - which is best ? If i went for 3 phase with convertor, is it possible to have a switch so that i could choose either A) Lathe or B) Milling machine ? (I don't have a milling machine yet, but would like one). In a bit of a rush, so whatever i decide i'll order on Monday. Currently got a hub thats been half machined in the chuck Thanks Gordon Something like this any good ? As he's local to me for collection : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290735890990?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648
  5. I don't know, i'm not so sure it's stolen. Yes there's a chance it is but hell, we've got 3 or 4 rolling chassis at our place. The log books have long since been 'scrapped'. No ID means no numberplate i assume. IF the chassis number is ground off then ok, i would be suspicious. G
  6. Apart from the fact that the number plates are on show i'd be pressure washing the sand off it and then using the warrenty service when it breaks lol ! G
  7. I think Aberdeen should be renamed evoque. I remember just after they came out i was up there for a course and the damned things were everywhere. Fair play for going in that 'puddle'. I wouldn't put my ford in it and thats on 35" mud terrains LOL (it's a tart bus in reality) ! G
  8. And then they get silly and put 24v through 12v motors for proper speed
  9. Nige, Don't forget me when you trip over that 727 tomorrow morning. Maybe take some pictures of it as well G
  10. I'm going to type what others are thinking. Just find a replacement chassis from another 110 thats being broken for parts. Not 100% legit if you go by the book, but a lot easier and cheaper than going for a new item. G

    Waisted!

Was the nut tight ? (It's an alternator right ?)
  12. A 1/2" impact gun can use 5+ cu f per minute. The above viair is listed as 2.7 (is that each pump or total ?) The arb in the first post is 1cfm (rounded off). Buy a 12v impact gun. They're useful G
  13. I was going to suggest just opening Nigels account and "View Threads" instead
  14. This is preparing non landrover axles for the next buggy G
  15. Agree with this. Also, offshore conditions are not the same as a nice workshop. Hence another reason they like arc I have seen high pressure stuff get welded with arc and then inspected. Likewise we've also used tig on parts (stand pipe root weld ) For jobs in the shop our welder uses both arc and mig. We have big machines of both. The tig is hardly ever used. Besides - i think the first thing an offshore welder learns is where the coffee shop is ! Gordon
  16. Honest answer - no. Well not for any useful length of time. I've got both a 12v and air con compressor with a small storage tank in my challenge truck. Much better idea. G

  18. I was in aberdeen last week glad it wasn't this week ! Traffic is bad enough without snow
  19. Get back to who you got it from and get a replacement. G
  20. All the more reason to take an old series. You won't be able to hear her in the cab....bliss...
  21. My series 2a has a series 3 gearbox with overdrive. I also have RRC 3.54 diffs in. 3.5 v8. I can sit quite comfortably on the motorway at 60 - 65ish Gordon
