  1. They are. The cylinder heads leak, but can be fixed with o rings. I also run check valves between the compressor(s) and tank. Mine lasted a couple years, but freaked out on the scotia challenge. To be fair, when i stripped it down it was full of mud - so no fault of tmax ! I now have a single cylinder as it is only there as a backup. I do test it before every outing though as our day is as good as over if we don't have air. G
  2. This is the way to go I run an aircon as my primary compressor. I do have a 12v tmax compressor fitted as well as a backup but have never had to use it. G
  3. If you got an ARB compressor then they have a small little tank. It'll be fine for diffs. If you wish to pump up tyres etc, then a tank might be useful. Have a search on the forum, there's lots of info. G
  4. Mike, you're in manchester from memory ? Where about ? I'm back later tonight.
  5. I can only agree with all that's been posted above. Mine doesn't self centre so the first time you try and drive fast going round a corner you **** yourself ! My truck isn't made for speed and it isn't nice going fast. Likewise, when in mud, many a time my co driver will have to tell me that my wheels are pointing one way or the other and i'm just ploughing through. BUT it was a very impressive upgrade for challenging I run M20 rosejoints in double sheer. G
  6. Afternoon, I've run NGK BPR6ES since I've had my v8 running. But for some reason i don't find them that reliable. I'm probably using a set in about 6 or 7 months. Please remember this is a trailered challenge truck so not used that much in reality ! Over the past week mine was missing and then yesterday it just refused to start. Put a new set of plugs (ngk's) on it and fired up first time. Thoughts ? Gordon
  7. Auto's are really nice. But if you're on a galv chassis i'm not sure if you'd be happy cutting off engine mounts and moving things around ? Gordon
  8. Marine department............ they hate us in the drilling department, as we just break everything !
  9. This was up near Buxton yesterday. My sunday driver is the 2a G
  10. Neil, I don't want to start another mud guard debate. But what does this mean : c) extend downward behind the wheel Do you mean ala rally car mud flaps ?
  11. Mine's fitted inside an ip65 box with the ecu that is velcro'd down to my centre console next to me. Meaning if my butt is getting wet then i can unstick the box and lift it up a bit. I'd rather be safe than sorry. It's screwed to a plastic board and i've not had trouble with heat. G
  12. Rather you than me to be honest. V8's leak. So to just put it into water i would rather not do. Unless you've sealed your inlet manifold, valley gasket, dipstick, bellhousing cover, rewelded the airbox as they leak, plenum, fuel tank breathers etc etc etc i wouldn't do it ! Alternator ? Starter motor ? I've 'swum' before.....only to find a small leak on my fuel tank breather. I run multiple pumps each with filters so got away with it but it took me ages to get all the silt out the tank ! G
  13. On a totally different note - hello from an ex Gweru resident Gordon Conway !
  14. Come on Nige ! : This is for the random text you sent me the other day LOL ! [........../leaving the forum now before i get a ban ]
  15. They're not the easiest of wires to solder. Need sanding etc.
  16. Use the standard fuel regulator. That's the wiring for a lambda sensor isn't it ? I cleaned the wires up and then soldered them into a loom. G
  17. What's wrong with flipping the axles ? That's what we're doing. Others have done so without problem. The rakeway transfer box is nice but remote and only has one ratio. Fine if you use a 6L90 like saley, but it worried me with a 3 or 4 speed. Milner also make a reverse. OR Use a normal transfer box, with a prop from what would normally be the front output to a remote rakeway transfer that is mounted at the front of the engine then to your axles. This will give you 2 ratios. G
  18. Because i don't want to scratch it My series 2a is more fun. Normal wheels, carb'd V8 (that actually runs amazingly well!) For everyday driving i think the 2a makes you smile more than the 250. G
  19. Good pics Let me know next time you're going out and we'll tag along if it's ok In a series, not the ford G
  20. Something in the back of my head is saying to me "check the centre diff". I have no reason as to why it would make a difference left of right but have you got a viscous borg warner transfer box or lt230 (a lever to engage diff lock). And like Dave said above, you need to check all your mounts, bushes, bolts are tight etc. Do all your wheels spin freely when the axle is jacked off the floor ? Gordon
