Daan
Chaps, It looks the IVA is going to get a major change; The proposal is to enforce compliance to Euro 6 rules for newly tested IVA vehicles. Seriously bad news for us: http://www.badobsessionmotorsport.co.uk/urgent-dot-consultation-news/ I have filled in the consultation and emailed a letter to my local MP. miketomcat
I was just going to post this I've also emailed the consultation. Mike
Bowie69
Done here as well, it is one tiny part, I suspect, and also hope it won't come to fruition. Would mean Binky is a track car only then.
mad_pete
Is Euro 6 same as current MOT test ?

Bowie69
Euro 6 is emissions test standards for the latest and greatest engines with turbos, dpfs, egr etc. Basically what the newest vehicles have to meet to enable them to be sold in the EU. FridgeFreezer
I note the document says responses can be on behalf of a club or other organisation - so presumably if the mods or someone came up with a sensible & eloquently worded response they could submit it on behalf of the membership of LR4x4. People on committees of clubs could do the same - I'll look into it with miketomcat as we're both on a committee.
miketomcat
I've copied the one linked and emailed it but I could be done from the club to. Mike

The irony being that most Euro6 compliant vehicles have worse emissions than 1980s vehicles...

FridgeFreezer
Pretty much NOTHING that's not designed as Euro 6 would ever pass Euro 6 even with added cats/DPF etc. Reckon these days you've got more chance of getting modern petrol lumps working via MSEFI than you've got getting a computerised diesel running. Bowie69
Agreed, it basically would mean new crate engines complete with ECU is the only viable transplant. Aftermarket ECUs probably wouldn't get it to run well enough for the test, so would have to be a post-IVA change, but I bet they would legislate against that.... Has the time of the car being a thing of passion gone?
FridgeFreezer
TBH the UK rules are and have always been a lot more lax than the rest of Europe, engine swaps & kit cars are nigh on impossible in a lot of places. I suspect it's either badly worded or just not very carefully thought-out.
Arjan
Well, from 19/03/2019 you can do whatever you want. Hope you get somewhat laxer regulations but here on the Continent...
Arjan
BTW - that site seems off line.....
mad_pete
Right but the paper says pass the current MOT test which is not EU6. Basically I think you need to have catalytic converters and a sensible condition engine.
Bowie69
One of the questions in the online form specifically asks if vehicles going for IVA should have to comply to Euro6.
supaimpy
Yes pass the current MOT emissions doesnt read too bad until you realise, problem is a vehicle subject to BIVA is a 'new' vehicle so subject to latest standards read 4.10 and 4.11 , gonna need new crate engines
mad_pete
Just latest mot standards. That’s not that hard to pass is it ? Must have some mot savvy people here. What’s the latest rules on emissions to pass mot ?
miketomcat
Unless your building an ibex which has a 200tdi in it and is nearly ready for an IVA I really don't fancy and can't afford to rip it all apart again to put a new engine in. Also as Mike says, for a new vehicle, which effectively his is, with an older engine, he needs to meet new emission standards, which I don't the venerable 200tdi would ever met. GW8IZR
the MOT wording for spark engines has always been clear, the age of the engine or vehicle whichever is earliest ( easier) to pass. For compression engines its not as clear.
SPendrey
Surely there are VW lumps we could use... they'll pass any test. 1

The first part is dealing with that as well. I don't have a major problem with where they're going with this tighter emissions isn't a bad thing but the average kit car build is 5 years so 3 months is out of order.
