Those same idiots are going back again this year though sadly a lap seems to be unlikely. But if your going pop over and say hi we have a stand on the outfield side of the bridge. Jon W Posted July 26, 2018 Share Posted July 26, 2018 It is a fantastic event, we went a couple of years back and were amazed at how open the event is with access to all the pits and the pit lane you can stand right on it, health and safety hasn't caught up with it thankfully. Literally could stand next to pit crews as they were tinkering pre race. This includes; entrance with a display car for 3 days, you must be there from 10-5 but racing doesn't finish till at least 6 sat it's 9. Camping at woodlands site we stay Thursday night through till Sunday (there is cheaper sites but woodlands is easy). Entrance does cover everything infield, paddocks, pits, grandstands, fun fair the lot. Access is everywhere literally. That's why I love it, it's got most of the metal that's at Goodwood (and a lot that isn't), they have proper races not just a quick whizz up a hill, it's an affordable weekend and not crowded as it's built to take an F1 GP crowd. Worst that happens is a couple of the grandstands get busy during the most popular races, and the traffic gets a bit busy at peak arriving / kicking out time. He had to give Silverstone £500 to repair the barrier just to rub the insult in! He was ever so slightly upset so had ever such a small drink and shot my dads friend with an air pistol, who had also had a small drink and didn't realise how serious it was until he woke the next morning in a pool of blood. I always think if people have the money to be racing a classic Ferrari at a place like that they can hopefully afford to fix it if they bend it kinda like off-roading, you have to accept it's always possible you're going to roll the thing even if you're taking it easy. It's pretty hard to write off a lot of the real racing metal as the teams have the ability to rebuild / re-create the entire car from scratch if needed. Talking to my mate, they'd just rebuilt one after a big "off", took many many months. One of the races had a starting line up worth around £12 million (for something like a dozen cars). At least half of them required a full rebuild at the end of the race... Hell if you can afford it at least enjoy it. He spoke with one of the owners and apparently it's only raced once a year at Goodwood, they then spend the rest of the year rebuilding it for the next year... This was an old road car rather than a classic race car, he bought it many years ago when they were more affordable and cherished it. It's gone to the insurance company now.
