Hitower
Hi all... Well, its time for me to buy a winch for my defender 90. I was thinking about this one? champion C12000 EWX 12V Electric Winch. What do you think?
suggs
depends on what you want it for, serious winching or a bit of green laning. if you can afford a bit more then look at a Superwinch EP9, i and many others use this winch... winches are very much "you get what you pay for" last thing you want is for it to let you down when your really stuck

BogMonster
I would also suggest a TDS. The only issue I can see with them is that the rustproofing on the tie bars is a bit non existent.
bobtail4x4
You must have a bad one? mine are fine after 2 years on the front of the disco.

BogMonster
Maybe it was - it wasn't mine just one I saw. A new set of tie bars was supplied FOC anyway - though I think if I had one I'd get a metalworker to turn up a set of stainless ones like the Milemarker has

Bowie69
Yep, mine are a bit rusty -lack of maintenance I say in my case though Other than that, it's excellent

calle-fas
I have two winches from Warn. I'd no doubt go TDS if I were to buy another electric winch. Sick and tired of stripping the winches to get mud and water out of gearbox and motor. Now sealed and rubber hoses for drainage I hope to save some of that work though. But even worse, the cone brake get's oily after a while and you need to clean that too.
SteveG
Seriously trying to think ,as to why you need a winch for green lanes ?? If its that bad, should really you be there !!!! Are you serious Tim????? There are numerous reasons for where a winch could be used on a greenlane and none of them reckless, irresponsible etc etc. Gently getting over an obstruction or rocks after slipping off in to a ditch Getting through a section of deep ruts (tractor) without causing further damage. etc etc btw I seem to recall using a winch to pull you out on a lane in Wales. Mine have gone all rusty, I was thinking of having some stainless ones turned up as someone else mentioned but its a great winch none the less! Dave. Retroanaconda
It's not no. The good people are reccomending a TDS instead

Retroanaconda
I thought it was the Kingone winches that were the same as the Bowyer TDS? http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/catalog/184-King-One-TDS-Range-9500-to-16500lb.html Unless Champion also buy it and re-brand, as Bowyer/Kingone does? zoltan
Despite their Far Eastern ancestry, these TDS ones work OK? Maybe not as good as XYZ brand but adequate for non competing, occasional use?
BennyB
We use a TDS on the rear of our comp truck, not had any problems and have done a whole season of comps with it. Value for money you can't beat them.
BogMonster
Kingone is the same anyway because one of the ones here still has a Kingone logo on it
