I have a periodic dry bearing noise sounding like its under the seat (not that I'm good at where noises are coming from) - I'm wondering if its the rear transfer box output bearing.
Can anyone tell me how to check this ?
The noise seem to be under drive - and not when I freewheel (which makes me think its not a wheel bearing?). When under real load I can't hear it - though that may be the increased engine and road noise masking it.
I've had a long term leak from the rear of the transfer box, that seem to come back within 'moments' of replacing the seal. Also a growing clunk, which I'll turn my attention to afterwards - though it would be nice if it was two symptoms of one issue.
Any suggestions of anything else to check would be welcomed.
I've re-greased the prop UJ's and wiggled them with a pry bar and not detected any play.
