  1. Actually, thro' the power of t'web, I have answered my own question. I googled the registration, and low and behold, there it is, on airport duty........on the 'isle of Bara' parked right next to the sea ,on a peninsular of the tiny island, for presumable 8-10 years. and it was red. so i guess the salt air over the years had taken its toll on the underneath. Its in Midlands somewhere now. Power of t'web is a wonderful thing you know.
  2. I've seen a 'nice' 110 sw td5 on t'web, 02 my in keswick green + white with new white wolfs. ONLY 75k and was on 'airport fire service duty' . now this prob means it was red, hence the now keswick green. thing is, at only 75k,it states it has the following......... Genuine 75,750 miles just one previous owner (Inverness Airport Fire Service) Complete brake and suspension over hall including new discs, pads, calipers, hand brake drum, shoes cables, brake lines and flexis, new genuine LR H/D springs and shock absorbers. New swivels, seals and bearings. Fuel tank pump, alternator, battery. Perfect chassis ,outriggers and bulkheads, totally rust free. Full service just carried out, excellent condition Defender 100% structurally and mechanically, door bottoms all perfect, Fresh 12 month MOT with zero advisories , old cliché but first to see will buy. this seems rather excessive, do you think it has had a hard life, been in the sea, been flooded etc. does look v. nice tho, but a bit steep at £10,995
  3. you say checked the vacum pump, but have you swapped it for a known good one.maybe you could remove and try it, if thats possible without spraying oil everwhere. mine was loud. cambelt not slipped a tooth has it?
  4. whats wrong with your old one, do you still have it? I might be interested in a small bit if its scrap? some b'std caught my n/s corner, not too bad, but need the vertical capping and a small section near the top curve, so I can cut out the dent, and pop rivet a piece back in.
  5. what about 'spirit of salts' our plumber uses it to descale / clean out heat exchanger on the boiler. (not caustic soda)
  6. Ah how big is the hole? possibly dill it out with a hole saw, do the same the other side, put your finger in each one with a load of grease on it and wipe it all round inside, and then fit 2 suitable sized rubber blanking gromitts. Then you have permanent access for future maintenance .
  7. would you mind saying what it cost you / mileage thanks.
  8. Anyone know what the part numbers are for the galvanised front door waist capping are , on early 90/110's , not the split door ones, but the 'dummy' ones used on the one peice lift up handle jobs. They were flat at the back and fixed to the door via a clip of sorts and holes drilled into the door. I expect they are obsolete, but I might fit some to Wallace when I fit his galv rear cappings (that I've had hanging up for 5 years)
  9. Hmm, just noticed that the N/A version has dual range gears, whereas the turbo doesn't. wonder how low, low is.
  10. any pics. That'll be the mk 1 forrester. what made you want one ?
  11. As said a bit ot, but thinking of 'outing' my 300tdi 110 HT, and have been lusting after .......a Subaru Forrester, 2.0XT, AWD, 177 bhp, Anyone know much about them, they have the WRX chassis, but practical. Thinking about 04/06 my, and its hard to find a bad word against them. The one I'm looking at has 60k only and full sh. Not as big as a 110, but had 110s for 15 years now, so getting itchy feet.
  12. but if the engine is turning, then the turbo is spinning, thus giving some boost, at lower rev range anyway. Its quite peppy of the mark, but obviously not as powerful, will cruise at 70mph, but will slow down on hills as your fuelling is limited. Quite fun to drive actually, its a bit like.......a non turbo tdi in a series, especially around country lanes, because with a good tdi , you get a bit lazy, because of the power, but without the extra fuelling, its fun as you have to be up the rev range a bit, and it feels a bit nippier, even tho' it probably isn't. I did think about interrupting the fuel boost pipe and diverting it into the cab, and plumbing in an on/off gas tap. Absolutely NO smoke at all. In fact I'm going to fill up tomorrow and blank it off again, and try another tank for mpg comparison.
  13. OR leave the boost fuelling blanked off . but also leave the turbo. You'll get xtra air in , and it'll create a lean burn engine. No smoke. I ran my 110 300 tdi like it for a while to check its effect on mpg, but it made no difference. runs well tho' much better than I thought it would.
  14. what additional security did they have fitted ?
  15. what do you call reasonable, these seem very reasonable, when you factor in the buying of std wheels and then fitting / balancing costs. Plus you can sell you old ones on e blag. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Land-Rover-Defender-wheels-standard-steel-Brand-new-tyres-90-110-Michelin-/191856447997?hash=item2cab8911fd:g:xTIAAOSwWTRWxdVS ps. and they are tubeless.
  16. did you make sure each of the propshafts were ''out of phase'' . . I'd double check the rear most uj on each prop.
  17. well Wallace is a 110 HT and I have an account, use it about once a month, and I've just checked , and I pay £1.67. The registration checker doesn't know I've got an extra window each side tho.
  18. are you not better off buying a cheap.....car with a 12 month ticket for about £500, then taking the 90 off the road, sort the engine, then sell the car with 6 months mot for ...say £450 ???
  19. wilkos 10w 40 semi synthetic, £15.00 for 5lts
  20. i used the stick on ones, so cant help.sorry
  21. whats your spring setup then Ralph? std , aftermarket, or progressive. Are the progressive ok to use without an anti roll bar, as the top bit is quite a bit softer?
  22. I'm sure you've all seen this before, Good fun, skip #3 tho' http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_145831846015313&key=36ad8bc22d612b2ca8645f59506d611a&libId=ilxw3pdt01001ld0000DA4icbndw5&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pirate4x4.com%2Fforum%2Fgeneral-4x4-discussion%2F731478-electric-land-rover-defender.html&v=1&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DlSV_46y6ufs&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F&title=Electric%20Land%20Rover%20Defender%20-%20Pirate4x4.Com%20%3A%204x4%20and%20Off-Road%20Forum&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DlSV_46y6ufs
  23. i actually did the opposite on Wallace. I took of the smooth van roof, and fitted an early csw roof, with external ribs, alpine lights, and galvernised roof rails, . Its a very strong roof compared to the later ones. Plus it came with a full fluffy headlining
