  1. it might be the brake vacuum pump disintigrating. Any how its now 3 days later so I wonder what has transpired.
  2. not to mention any snow that may or may not be in the Alps.
  3. one other thing no one has mentioned here, IF the engine will turn over, ie cambelt gone, then some engine braking can be expected, in low range, can it not? also charging up the servo, plus gentle application of h/brake.
  4. a) its probably illegal b) hope he dosen't sit at 70mph on the m/way too often, its bound to overheat, even tho its relatively new.
  5. can gas dampers give a harsher ride than std Armstrong ones, with the same springs. I have wolf spec springs, and gas dampers, in the morning when I get in the back, it bounces up and down quite freely a couple of times, then goes very firm, with a harsh ride. I know the wolf springs are HD but the way it bounces first thing, makes me think the stiffness is in the shocks.
  6. the simplest , but also most complicated answer, is some sort of cam linkage, that reverses the action of the handle, so that you pull it down to open, not try and lift it up in a cackhanded, twisted wrist , kinda way. A few years ago, I spotted a s111 (wish I had taken a picture, but camera phones were things of HG Wells), and the rear door was hinged on the other side, so that the handle mechanism was on the offside. It looked as it it was made like that, maybe the owner was left handed?)
  7. duff batch of contaminated deisel? ie water in the underground holding tanks. Has it happened on more than 1 tankful, if not then maybe time for some higher cetane deisel to help it along, or try another garage. Also disconnect the intecooler/turbo hose next time, then try it . maybe the seals have gone, and its trying to eat its own oil when hot..
  8. 110 300tdi http://www.fuelly.com/car/land_rover/defender_110/1998/yostumpy/112214 29.7mpg ..................79 fill ups.
  9. ADAC here. IIRC it's about £90 for me and swmbo, (personally) in any vehicle, in the whole of Europe, including uk, (they have an arrangement with AA. So total Europe covered for less than UK alone. No brainer really.
  10. got a picture of said metalic object, say, next to a 20p for size. Years and years ago , my ol' dad had a s2a,petrol, and somehow dropped a nut down ' in there somewhere' . Anyway he left it for years, as it didn't come out with an oil change, then finally one day it did, and it was almost completely rounded smooth. He then stuck it on his key ring. Wish I knew where it went.
  11. still could be the brake vacuum pump. its a sort of tappet tapping noise, 3-4 taps then maybe 1 random but rythmical as it were. Stick your vets hose on it and listen when it does it next time ( also does it more when hot). Also had a similar noise with semi blocked fuel filter, but this sort of sounded more like a knackered old Transit. Also if the lift pump is a Delphi one, there is a screw on the top that allows access to a gauze filter inside , and this does get blocked with STUFF.
  12. as said dont speed. Even on the auto routes. They catch you now by working out the time you got your ticket , to the booth you leave, and they work out your speed. So if you sit at 100 for three hours, stop for a 20 min coffee break.
  13. put a new switch in, there cheap enough. Mine did this when I first got it, with 90k on the clock. Swapped the switch, and no more illuminations, now on 155k. (mines a 300tdi as well)
  14. just about to get another new screen fitted (thursday) . Its worth paying the £75 excess, and I always request a new rubber, so i assume it will be a genuine one. Might ask for the old one, , (about a year old,) and offer it as a freebee.
  15. Well , as a self confessed ''Old Git'' and a TD5 with only 70k on it, I think you should be worrying more about ''you'' throwing a six rather than the TD5
  16. check air filters not blocked check all intercooler hoses, for split or collapse fit new fuel filter check lift pump ( some have small screw on top, to gain access to a gauze filter that gets blocked) check fuel filler cap vent , not blocked.
  17. Ditto, but I have a little trick. You know when the ends spilt,, about 1/4" long,, and then they hve to be replaced for MOT, well I cut off the flappy bit with a sharp knife, and re install them. This stops it fraying any more. then i go and buy a new pair, and store them in the truck, and swop them over at MOT time, and then sop them back after. They last at least twice as long this way, maybe more.
  18. Your 130 is ''non-compliant'' meaning ,,,,er.....you have to pay.......lots......£100 ish.
  19. Don't think you'll be going to heathrow in the 130, not unless you pay the LEZ fee. ( unless its a lateish TD5)
  20. One thing to watch out for tho' I rekon, would be the very hard/sharp 'pimples and nibs' you get with galv, once inspected and smoothed off , I rekon they would look good. Sort of 'anti bling' therapy
  21. other than work lamps, I can't see the need for this latest fashion, of smothering your truck in lights. IMHO it looks well pants, and bordering on chavvy! Still, nothing like being different, eh!
  22. They took that and left the PORSCHE targa top !!!!!!!!!!!!
