the simplest , but also most complicated answer, is some sort of cam linkage, that reverses the action of the handle, so that you pull it down to open, not try and lift it up in a cackhanded, twisted wrist , kinda way.
A few years ago, I spotted a s111 (wish I had taken a picture, but camera phones were things of HG Wells), and the rear door was hinged on the other side, so that the handle mechanism was on the offside. It looked as it it was made like that, maybe the owner was left handed?)
