  1. Hi Would a bungee and a chain/padlock not work? Mike
  2. Hi Could anyone tell me if there is any difference between civilian and military, and series and 90/110/early defender military door tops? I bought a pair of replacements but on the both sides they overlap the windscreen frame at the top, ie the angle of the front of the frame is too steep if you get what I mean, the door bottoms and bulkhead are perfectly aligned with an even panel gap and the old door tops fit perfectly? Whats going on? Is it a case of mixing civvy/military/series/defender tops up or is more likely due to the fact that a certain Derbyshire based parts supplier that has a name quite like a large field is churning out doortops that are just wrong? Hmmm I think I know which is more likely but I'll wait to hear from a responsible adult first Mike
  3. keep your eyes out on ebay, my huge record vice was a fiver as long as i took the huge bench it was bolted to Mike
  4. They aren't that expensive to replace?! Timken wheel bearings for the whole axle would be £28, I'd replace them while its apart... Mike
  5. Crikey! new nappy time i think, I had a rover 213 do that to me but I managed to put it out with a little fire extinguisher thank god, Glad your ok and at least its only a wiring loom and fuel hose... Mike
  6. Hi Do they just hold the step on or are they part of the towpack? if just the step then undo them, drill the nut out and put a new nut on the back, Mike
  7. I'm sure I heard somewhere that a shot of 2 stroke oil in with the diesel helps in this situation? adds a bit more lube to the pump? May be complete rubbish?!! Mike
  8. Hi Just so we can help, how much experience of welding and metalwork do you have? I don't want to teach granny to suck eggs! also where are you? you may find you have a forumeer near you who could help? Mike
  9. Hi Make sure you have the strop as shot as possible or you may find you run out of travel on the crane! also when you have it out get it lowered before you go dragging it off as it will be much more stable! Mike
  10. Hi Last time I had a clonk like that it was the A frame balljoint, I know its not at the front but sound gets transmitted everywhere down the chassis so worth giving it a wiggle next time your underneath! Mike
  11. or quite possibly half an hours work with a steam cleaner and some paint like all the dodgy 'recon' mini engines on ebay! mike
  12. plywood battery box idea also good for stopping the batt terminals welding themselves to the lid when you may or may not have forgotten to clamp them down again mike
  13. Hi Pete, I'll check it on sat if you like, theres some verniers and a set of thread gauges at the unit, I would have thought it was highly likely to be 1/8 NPT but its a land rover so who knows Mike
  14. Hi Try and avoid getting one of the ones which is a bottle jack with return springs, they are rubbish, get one with a proper ram like the machinemart ones, if your patient you can geta nice sealy one off ebay for the same as a clarke one from mm, I too have had the joy of maxing out my friends press on the a frame bushes, dont know what rating it was but its in a factory that makes factories and its about the size of a small van! gas axe fixed it though Mike
  15. IF you happened to be worried that the galving process may have softened the mount you could always stick a nut on the back as well, just on the off chance that a tap happpened to get blown by the wind into the hole, and the only way to get it out was to turn it.... Mike
  16. Hi Provided they are decent quality ones, and fitted properly, and your chassis is in good nick then jate rings should be up to it. You can use a bridle to spread the load between both of them but dont go linking everything with shackles! Mike
  17. I'll second that, make sure you get the plastic rivets as you'll never take them alive! Mike
  18. Yup 7/16 UNF, its only very recently that its changed IIRC Mike
  19. Hi The metric ones are M10x1.00 ie M10 fine, on the 109 (1984) the wheel cylinders are imperial, the flexis are metric, the other unions are metric too Mike

  21. Hi Get the 110 they are much better than 90s Mike
  22. Hi Welcome to the forum! would you not be better off with jerry cans? then you'd only lose 20L at a time to contaminants/thieves? only downside is that you'd lose a bit of space in the cab or on the rack, having said that i saw a 110 that had extra cans fitted on the outside of the tub? Mike
