  1. looks good! i may be interested in the lights if you get rid, i seem to keep collecting them Mike
  2. Bit thick when it comes to electrics... would it be possible to use the maplin one to switch a relay in line with the 'sense' wire to my x charge? to stop the split charge working if main batt goes below 11.5v, if i just have the alternator connected to the main batt this will mean that the main will charge first then both right? Mike
  3. I'd start with a length of box section, and taper the ends like luke said, if you wanted to really show off you could do it in stainless and use it as an air/water/hydraulic reservoir too B) B) B)
  4. or you could borrow one, take the viscous fan off, put it in the bin, fit an electric one and give the spanner back and not worry about your fan ever again mike
  5. hmmm i dunno, might be cheaper on diesel but it does a horrendous amount of hobnobs per mile Mike
  6. Hi Pete, When are you getting your new box? I have a good zf4hp22 in the unit if you want it? Let me know when your getting the box and i'll come over and help you fit it, or if you can sort transport we can move the 110 outside and you can put it in the unit if you like? Mike
  7. Pete if its the stub shaft splines then i have a spare one off a v8 autobox in the shed at home? is it a zf4hp22 box? ring me if you want it and i'll get my dad to dig it out for you and drop it round? Mike
  8. success! got the bugger off but it took a lot of chiselling and my 24" adjustable abusing spanner, with me and cat hanging off it, still all the steering joints are replaced on the 109 now even if i do need to get sponsored by ibuprofen mike
  9. not to open the can of worms but if you just want it to provide a top mount for the seatbelts then your ok bolting through the tub with big spreader plates, it will still be far stronger than the factory top mounts, if you are wanting roll over protection then you must fix to the chassis, having said that 'owt is better than nowt' and a hoop bolted to the floor MAY save you if you roll it... Mike
  10. IIRC last time I bought treadplate it was £40 for 8x4 2mm or £45 for 3mm that was trade price and about 2 years ago so may well be more now, try your local engineering place as they may let you order it on their account if you take beer/cash Mike
  11. The shoulder belt mounts must be at least roughly horizontally level with passenger/seat shoulder height, this is to prevent your belts squashing you down in a crash, if you look in the sva manual theres a minimum angle specified, I think mounting to the bulkhead will be too low. Mike
  12. i have those modular switches and they are great but expensive, a simple on/off with 1 window ends up being about a tenner, fine unless you end up having to match them for another 8 switches! Mike
  13. I'm going to telford and back to liverpool/cheshire on sunday if anyone needs bits moving, not big/oily though as will be in a corsa dressed like this to avoid the embarrassment Mike
  14. I made something similar for my 110, linky Mike
  15. After it ate 2 pullers I ended up having to use an extremely dangerous assortment of 3 crowbars and 3 jacks simultaneously to apply leverage to it while I belted it with my No.1 Abusing hammer, and it still took ages, did give up eventually though...
  16. Hi Si I cant remember what its called but IIRC its quite spendy, how about a double layer of polycarbonate/perspex? you could treat the outer layer (perspex) as sacrificial and replace it when it got too scratched up as its quite cheap? a quick go with a roll of that clear self adhesive plastic stuff (or even sellotape) would help the shattering problem? Mike
  17. Congratulations! Hope you had better weather than me... when I did my test it was raining so hard the examiner took his car! Mike
  18. hi cant get my old TREs off the tie rod of the 109 (plenty of soaking in oil, and me hanging off a huge breaker bar, all it was doing was twisting the rod!), any issues with just making another? i have a friendly machine shop available, they aren't supposed to be toughened or anything are they? I was thinking of getting them to just cut the threads into a suitable size piece of gas pipe, any issues with this? Ta Mike
  19. out of interest does it not show which length bolts go in which holes in the book of lies/manual?
  20. They do make life a lot easier, being able to flip the block over whenever you need to, You can normally get the flywheel off as the 'legs' have a built in stand-off, and the bottom ones are wide enough to get the flywheel out between them if you see what I mean? the only disadvantage with mine is that when your torqueing things up it tends to just follow you round the workshop as it doesnt have locking castors Mike
  21. I nearly wet myself when Cat (wife) came downstairs, saw the penguins on the bbc and immediately went off on one about how cute they were and wasn't it amazing etc.... and she has a Genetics degree FFS!! didnt see the greyhound ice racing though
  22. how about making a strong box to keep the jack in that doubles up as a wider and taller base for it? you could even make it quick release on the side of a chassis rail to keep space in the cab, would also relocate some extra weight lower down? hows that for thinking inside the box eh?
  23. cheap as chips from maplin, maybe cheaper elsewhere but you'll probably have a maplin near you that has a range of them in stock, mike
  24. Hmmm yes does look a bit suspect, mind you safety devices are no better since they moved out to poland or wherever, looks like i'll have to ask northern chris nicely! Ta Mike
