  1. Bending treadplate is one of those jobs where its better to take it to somewhere with a proper folder and hand over a small amount of cash during luch break... Mike
  2. The tech archive is always useful for finding the next project to do! Mike
  3. Ditto, I have a portamig 181! Steve is very helpful... Mike
  4. Ok cool, couldn't work out if it was worth it or not, Best get on with that v8, hmmm wonder if I could nick the very nice 3.9efi and autobox thats earmarked for the kitcar, time to break into my dads shed I think
  5. The threads are usually the same - 1/4 BSP, I personally always change them over to PCL, no reason really other than thats what my first compressor had on it and hence everything since, Mike
  6. Hi Quick question, Is it worth me megajolting the 2.25 in the 109, or should I use it for a bit while I rebuild a 3.9 for it and megasquirt the V8? I'm not after performance from the 2.25 but reliability, the MJ kit seems cheapish and I can get the bits from a scrappy, and I can whinge at Pete until he installs it for me but is it a waste of money when ultimately I'll need a V8, I can't help it and I know its childish but I just love the sound B) B) Mike
  7. I'm fairly sure you're not allowed to fit sideways seats anymore, but if they were an option when yours was built you can still have them, ie its not retrospective, I seriously would not fit them, the price of the forward facing ones has come down a lot, Yes if you have a head on with lap belts in a sideways facing seat your looking at a potentially huge force going through your pelvis/spine and abdomen... You pays yer money.... Mike
  8. Nope you have to have proper belts, but you should try and fit forwards facing as they are not ideal Mike
  9. If you want sportscar handling and performance, buy a sportscar!
  10. Hi Try the turbo centre, they do hybrid turbos for landys and are good to deal with! Mike
  11. 3/8 UNF nylocs are 12.5p each from Namrick, although I'm sure if you dug around you could get them even cheaper, I do reuse them personally but only a couple of times and if they are in good nick Mike
  12. Hi when you get the shells sent out get some plastigage too, then you can measure it in situ and pick the best size from there? Mike
  13. Hi depends how bad yours is, changing a bulkhead is dead easy, I have done a couple now and its a nut and bolt job, the only thing to watch out for is that if you choose to do it the 'leave everything attached' way its pretty heavy and you'll need a couple of mates over to help, it is much faster to do it that way though. My bulkhead on the defender was made MOTable with a quick repair patch and used for another year while I sourced a replacement one and took my time blasting/welding/modifying and painting it so when it came time to swap it took me and my wife a day to do it, not working particularly hard, depends how confident you are mechanically? Mike
  14. might be why its called an inverter
  15. Where are you? You may be lucky and find someone near you who could do it for you? Mike
  16. Hi I'd get it sorted asap, if you coat it in waxoyl you'll only have to put up with it being a messier and more flammable job when you eventually have to replace it, I'd get a replacement and spend some time reworking it to make it right, Mike
  17. Hi Are the glowplugs working? you can check resistance across them as per the book of lies. a bit of smoke is ok but it shouldnt be making a smoke screen... Mike
  18. Glad you got it sorted! I had the same problem but due to someone stuffing loads of soundproofing down the side of the linkage! Mike
  19. Hi take the transmission tunnel off and make sure you are actually engaging diff lock, mud excess soundproofing and worn bushes can all interfere with the linkage, if you move the lever into lock watch the lever on the box and make sure its moving all the way over. Mike
  20. lol very observant of you, am a big fan of the league of gentlemen! Mike
  21. Dont they usually consist of a plate with a lip that the foot slots into, then a pin that one of the rack holes goes over, and you put a padlock through the end of the pin, Is that the type you mean?
  22. Hi Might be wrong but I dont think you can fit such a pedestrian maiming A bar to such a new defender, I think you are limited to the plastic/goose down feather one available from LR, Mike
  23. If he is paying then defo get the xbrake not having a parking brake won't stop you going to coventry though... if its that bad just wind the adjuster off til its non functional and leave it in gear when you park til you get it fixed, my original handbrake needed adjusting/cleaning so often I got fed up and never used it til MOT time... Mike
  24. Hi Well the original dor tops fit beautifully so confident doors/bulkhead/roof are all aligned properly, I just replaced the bulkhead and took great care to set it up properly, I ordered series doortops so I would be surprised if they sent 101 ones, they fit the door ok its just they overlap by about 10mm at the top of the screen and I'm fairly sure I cant get that much adjusted out of the hinges, not that I'd want to do that anyway as it would alter the fit of the door bottom too... Looks like I'll have to get some genuine tops, Mike
