  1. Hmm Safety first Unleashing a powerful burst of light. What is it with manufacturers instance of putting on ever brighter lights on cars. Do they not think that blinding other road users will cause accidents? Wasn't my fault gov I've got the new trillion watt lights fitted!
  2. I have never tried a roof tent but they look really precarious and if getting in the loft is anything to go by not great to get in an out of? I can see the point in Africa or other places with dangerous ground animals (or even people) but not Europe.
  3. I really feel your pain. Part of me leans toward a faulty sender but if it is a blockage it will be catastrophic which you've already had. Although the serp oil pump is a vast improvement over the old dizzy oil pump you can at least prime the old one with a drill. Will removing the plugs and spinning the engine over on the starter cause damage?
  4. As an owner of a vehicle named retrospectively (Series 1 never existed) I personally would have preferred the continued use of the wheelbase.
  5. True you are the Fred Dibnah of this forum.
  6. Unless you pic is magnified I think we differing ideas of what a "small screwdriver" is.
  7. These are the ones I use. Can't post pictures from my phone so linky.
  8. Not sure you can drive a car upside-down even an F1 is hyperthetical.
  9. I was going to say that banger racing is a big hit, however if found this comment. You don't get a lot of the heavy hitting contact in this formula, cos although the cars are built to last they arent easily straightened out after a big hit.
  10. Why what would affect a carb? I run a std 3.5 on carbs problems were from the dizzy being old, starting and running issues. Put on EDIS and MegaJolt runns fantastic now. Doesn't like flat battery when starting as the power goes to the starter not the MJ. EFI if you have an impact sensor it will cut out when you impact another vehicle as that is what it is designed to do. MegaSquirt its up to you if you fit the sensor.
  11. I think it's more than that, i think that they are pushed to meet targets for crimes that their boss decides is important at the time. its political up the line. Labour was/is anti car but focus changes. Besides cameras can fix motorists. I think the Police can still be tenacious when the need to, just they don't get to choose what about?
  12. Personally after trying rubbery and latex type gloves I have been using Costco rubber faced cloth ones. The only downside is that they must be synthetic as they start to disintegrate when using a grinder. However they are great for heavyweight stuff like axles etc.
  13. There might be I will measure up, Space is tight but I think it is possible as there is a wood panel above the door which can be removed either in total or partially which will give me loads of headroom but may not comply with local rules as it will change to look of the building slightly. I also need to look at how the door is dropped into the opening, there was a comment on this thread or another making a similar question where the runners are on the ceiling but the door opening is much lower. Ideally I want the door to fit under a lintel and between the pillars rather than behind it. The answer may just be to compromise on some items. I have noticed a property opposite me which has replaced the up and over so I will ask them if I can look at his installation.
  14. Basically Loads of room for a roller none for a sectional. The current up and over is around head height of the internal garage to house door but is only there when open. The frame for the sectional door would be there permanently and impractical and injury likely.
  15. I believe that MOT testers should be policing the visible and measurable items in the test, that is their job. However it has been stated many times on this forum (so I take it as reasonable info) that a tester cannot take things off or open covers to see what is being hidden. IIRC I could not easily see the cats on my D3 but the emissions test would show compliance anyway. Thus an MOT tester would not know if the vehicle has been tampered with but might suspect it. Only an official investigation post accident or some other legal investigation would do so.
  16. Fridge, looking at your build thread was interesting other than the build part. The brand used by Three point five states that behind pillar is std and an extra kit is required for between pillar as there are no fitting holes on the side. Your photos show that the brand you bought was drilled for between pillar fitting as std? So just looked my garage with respect to fitting sectional door and it would be impractical for many reasons. One is that the floor is lower than house floor so to fit the runners would need to be higher than the house access door. This means that I would lose the storage currently above the garage door. Second is that the mains wiring for the house is just at this level going up the wall at the front corner 2 feet back from the door. Third is I would have to remove all my shelving. So I guess the only answer is to lose the above door shelf and fit a roller. Shame as I was sold on the sectional door.
  17. Great thanks this looking more and more suitable. I'll have to re read the thread as I only gave it a cursory view before as I had discounted this type of door for large workshops only. It pays to keep your mind open!
  18. I agree about the autonomous driving cars, hacking them would not be good. Not that we are ready for them yet, they will be viable only when they account for 100% of vehicles as the manual drivers will be an unknown IMHO.
  19. So underneath the motor is a cross tube between both runners, if I have roof joists crossing the garage to tie into do I still need that as my ceiling is not very high.
  20. Thanks this shot shows how far into the room the frame goes. My garage is part of the existing house with wiring for the lights in the ceiling so I don't want to disrupt it.
  21. OK thanks I will look in to them, I had discounted them. I will look at the industrial site photo again as it is easier to see.
