  1. After doing the above , which will be just as effective by cranking on the starter to check flow from the pump , I'd be inclined towards ignition timing , probably too retarded - as you accelerate the vac drops and the vac advance will also reduce , a bit of a tweak on the dizzy clamp and try it out on the road , take the spanner and tweak it the other way while you are out if no improvement . If you have lots of crankcase pressure its either stuck rings or maybe a blowing HG into the crankcase . The breather system is pretty basic on series engines Good to hear you are getting there cheers Steveb
  2. blimey thats fairly twisted , glad to hear that the driver and co-driver are ok Were they wearing helmets? cheers Steveb
  3. If the wheels are 32" I'd estimate the wheelbase to be around 180" !! who wants to hazard a guess at the turning circle Steveb
  4. You've blown my cover Julian I K Brunel is a hero of mine good find with the video , for aircraft panel replacement those temporary clamping rivet tools are handy - they can be fitted thru 2 panels from one side and tightened to pull the panels together and removed one at a time as the new rivets are fitted , can't remember what they are called though cheers Steveb
  5. Domed rivets are used on Series 1 body work and you will need rivet snaps to fit the dome head and then iirc a flat anvil tool to rivet the other end to a flattened disc A rivet snap is like a cold chisel except it has a flat working face with a recess shaped and sized to fit the head of the rivet - in this case domed or half round , this is used to hold the head against the piece to be rivetted so heavier the better then the shank that is through the other side is flattened out to complete the job . cheers steveb
  6. Thats a Series IIA , early as it has the deep sill trims , and by the look of it , headlights in the radiator panel . The best LandRover model ever made ........of course thats an unbiased opinion good luck with your search for yours from way back or for something similar cheers Steveb
  7. If you are worried about it , take it off again and check the gasket face on the T/hsg is flat with a straight edge , you could use some Sikaflex to aid sealing on re-assembly too cheers Steveb
  8. Hi jjm I've emailed him to ask if he's got time to have a little look at it for you , when I get a reply I'll pm you contact details, am sure Chris will be able to help in some way ....just got a reply pm on its way cheers Steveb
  9. Good work Jim Now its running better it'll only need a tweak to get it purrrrfect . My brother is down on the South Island near Chch , and would be happy to help set it up if you are in that area That Holden would be a nice conversion , a lazy straight 6 mm , cheers Steveb
  10. which series 1 model is it ? I have some stuff for various S1's cheers Steveb
  11. you could also weld a nut to a washer then weld the washer to the ends of a piece of 30 dia tube , nuts on the inside = no machining + lighter too cheers Steveb
  12. Errr not sure what maker , the packaging and booklet have no manuf. details anywhere but its the same sort of spec as the halfords one and was £40 from one of our steel delivery drivers and came with a 16gb micro card in a SD card holder sorry I can't provide more info Steveb
  13. I haven't tried mine yet - only had it a few days , but others I know have similar say they are good . As a by-product it seems they show up live road side camera's at night as they are also working on infra-red cheers Steveb
  14. ......it may help someone else too don't forget. I've been witness to 'events' through my windscreen, in the past, that should they happen again will now be recorded as well cheers Steveb
  15. I've got a similar one to the Halfords in my LandRover , it works well and loop records or will do 6 hrs in HD , one for the back window is on the list . It would definately help if anything ever did happen that results in contact ... cheers Steveb
  16. If its the P gasket you will see coolant stains down the front of the block , under the manifolds where the timing belt case and block face joint line is. Not a complicated job , but you do strip the front of the engine down to get to it , the 2 things that can cause probs are un-doing the crank bolt and removing the crank pulleys. It could be from the waterpump bearings so check that too hth Steveb
  17. you need to put a temporary test gauge in the winch feed hyd hose and get a definite reading , up to 200 bar should be fine as a line pressure , ONLY use proper test kit as 200 bar of hyd pressure is V dangerous if miss-handled , its something a mobile hyd vanman could do for you if you don't have access to the right kit . Was it with the drum fully loaded with cable ? and also what size pipework are you using for pressure and pump supply ? and what sort of contol valve? and what gear/engine speed were you testing at ? 4th(1:1) at 2500rpm is usually peak pump performance The grade of hyd oil will make a difference too . What size is your tank? My Mayflower that's now hyd blows the relief valve a lot sooner with a full drum cheers Steveb
  18. ...or a forklift breaker, its all out there on plant , you've just got to find some at a sensible price an orbitrol steering rotary valve thingy , a double ended ram and a smallish pump driven by a vee belt off the crank and you're away cheers Steveb
  19. I would have thought there are plenty of alternatives -Toolstation / local hardware shop / halfrauds/B&Q etc etc ...and the corrugated plastic I had in mind is the cheap small size you use for cheapo garden tool shed roofing just cut to fit Steveb
  20. A small drawer chest thats got a handle on the top and then lay small corrugated plastic in the drawers to lay the bits in cheers Steveb
  21. Hi Jim The governor is only really required when you are using the pto to drive something like a large compressor or generator where the load varies and is heavy . The pto you have is the std mechanical pto unit , so will drive lots of different things with a bit of creative fabrication including a hyd. pump cheers Steveb
  22. Hi You could put up some pic's of what you have and show the mis-fit , the proper cabs for early 80"ers are different iirc to the later 86"etc cabs.. cheers Steveb
  23. Any more news on the prep and entry list ? cheers Steveb
  24. I thought commercial speed restrictions on 3.5t or less is based on whether the vehicle has rear windows in the cab/ rear door(s)? cheers Steveb
  25. I've used the Irwin extractors on rounded 6 and 12 point bolt heads and locking wheel nuts that were completely round where the key was broken/lost , very useful tool and grips whatever is left of a fixing ,providing the remains come within the size range of the sockets iirc Snap-on do a similar set. cheers Steveb
