  1. It sounds to me as if you have low compression , so a compression test would be in order . Blowing really hot air into the cold inlet manifold will probably allow it to start instantly from cold , working heater plugs won't help low comp. hth cheers Steveb
  2. With the floor panel out and the bulkhead bolt removed a plasma cutter would take it off in a matter of minutes , access with a 4 1/2" grinder is a bit tight but do-able . Clean up and weld new one on . If the support from the bulkhead to chassis is left on the bulkhead shouldn't sag either, and grease the big bolt when you put it in cheers Steveb
  3. Those are my snow favourites , very picturesque drop me a pm if you are this way again , it'd be nice to meet some more forumeers cheers Steveb
  4. Get the trailer wieghed to give you an idea of susp. unit size needed, my guess is if they are old s/h units the rubber will be hard and not acting as either a spring or damper . I'm not sure you would be able to get any smaller than 750kg unbraked anyway... It probably sits at 150kg ish and tyre pressure should be set appropriately - a lower wieght would work with lower pressure and the tyres wouldn't overheat or wear badly My flatbed goes 1000kg ulw and if I'm towing a distance empty i run the tyres at 30psi then air up to 65psi before loading up cheers Steveb
  5. South Wales ? Nothing much here in Suffolk cheers Steveb
  6. Not seen one of those before , nice and compact Hopefully Honnitonhobbit will be along soon to give us the definitive info on it cheers Steveb
  7. pictures would help.... cheers Steveb
  8. I have a set of 5 new wolf tubed rims that I don't need pm me if you are interested 6.5" x 16" cheers Steveb
  9. As EJP says move the spring mounts inboard to match the 88" axle and a shorter rear prop . You can shave the bottom of the diff housing to improve your ground clearance if you want to , there are a few threads on here about it cheers Steveb
  10. there are three M5 threaded holes in the front of the sprocket to attach the puller plate to . If its proper stuck drill a hole almost thru parallel to the crank nose and split it with a chisel/punch cheers Steveb
  11. ...perhaps there is more to it than that , as you will have to line up the tbox outputs too cheers Steveb
  12. I'm pretty sure thats how Alvin Smith done his on the various StrangeRovers back in the 80's seems the easiest way to me , all std parts etc etc don't forget the build thread if you do it cheers Steveb
  13. A good day out there Dan , you are lucky to have such quality lanes Happy new year to you all cheers Steveb
  14. no cable ties required ..its big enough to create its own gravity field - the bits just get drawn on to the engine It would be interesting to know the overall length from the front of the crank to the back of the hand brake drum ... I doubt it would fit in a Disco as the engine is further forward to clear the bulkhead . I've seen a Bedford 330ci diesel in a 109 before , but quite a lot of it was in the cab! 'tis an interesting conversion for sure cheers Steveb
  15. mm Icelandic .. but not widened , it just has a Series roof and screen with the centre bar removed I wonder what the steering lock is like with those hooooge tyres? cheers Steveb
  16. I'd look for one off a vehicle of similar size and wieght and make mounts to suit to chassis and axle , 110 would be a start or D1 , I suspect one from a transit would be too stiff . cheers Steveb
  17. Isuzu 2.8 iirc I agree with what DD said - if the 3.1 Isuzu was a disappointment then there was almost certainly something wrong . cheers Steveb
  18. ....chain his back axle to a lamp post American Graffiti stylee Video would be useful if you are going to report it and pics of the car reg/ tax disc if possible to confirm identity best of luck Steveb
  19. :hysterical: thats excellent , what a find , whoever got that for you obviously loves you cheers Steveb
  20. ....you've nailed it Nige ....oh maybe that was tacky oops done it again any piercing comments from said mate ? oh no I've done it again .....my tale for today was a 9" grinder cutting disc jamming , exploding and coming to rest half way up my err 6pack/party7 ...luckily only a rather red stripe at a jaunty angle across my tum , and yes I'm normally careful and risk averse . I was all gloved/goggles/eardefenders/steel workbooted up It seems my thermals are tougher than I'd imagined Glad you are sorted tho Nige , I bet the extraction was worse than going in cheers Steveb
  21. Chris Thats run loose and worn the shaft , it should be a parallel shaft. The pulley drives by the clamping force when the nut is done up . That will be a sod to get the pulley to run true. Scrap I'd say cheers Steveb
  22. Then ask the commitee for a look at the insurance doc's for an event , if nothing is forthcoming you know your answer... ..and disclaimers are not worth the ink and paper , organisers of events are liable . cheers Steveb
  23. Our local p&p - Bures is all passengers and driver seat belted all the time , tbh I don't see the problem , why not be as safe as possible? The only time wearing 'belts is questionable is when in or near water..... Having been on a couple of club commitees I can see the point cheers Steveb
  24. How ya doing Dangerous? Yep the 109 is 6.5" wider giving enough width and length for RRC LSE seating layout , chassis rails undisturbed , just new outriggers , then I threw the LR bulkhead away and made one from 50mm sq box and 3mm ally plate . A wider roof and bonnet and and a rear door from 40x20x3 box and 3mm ally, some glass and you're there .......more or less Loads of work tbh but I like it not sure if I'd ever do it again , probably just buy a TLC Amazon Re the OP , a bulkhead removal bar changes the seating in LR's loads as do seat base runner spacers , offsetting the seat to the centre a bit and also a smaller steering wheel cheers Steveb
  25. Have you decided to get one then Ralph? Having it loop recording is quite re-assuring while driving in amongst todays drivers..... cheers Steveb
