  1. Depends what you are running off it.... Better if you are wanting something permanently live to run it straight of the battery via a fuse. If you want an ignition live then straight from battery, via fuse, relay and switch the relay via ignition live. Make sure all the wiring and components are up to the job -current rating that is
  2. Is this in any attempt to imitate the 'god-winch' of Malaysian fame? I'm interested from a techinical standpoint, definitely
  3. No loss in pressure, but marginally more lag due to greater volume in intercooler and pipework.
  4. Unbolt small aluminum cover plate on the front of the bell housing underneath. Have a look up inside and you will see a load of small-ish bolt heads near the starter ring -it's not these! Look deeper, and you will see 4 ~ 17mm headed bolts, you undo these with either a slim 3/8" ratchet and 17mm socket, or an open ended spanner, undo one, rotate the converter, undo another etc etc untill a;; 4 are clear, the torque converter should now rotate independantly of the flextplate/start ring, if so undo all the bell housing bolts and job done. If you get it wrong, it's no biggie, you just lose a couple of litres of ATF on the floor, and have to spend about 20 mins refitting the converter to the box -have as search if needed, this is covered by me and others elswhere on the forum. HTH *edit* Hop it doesn't look like this when you get it out
  5. The cutting out at junctions sounds like it could be idle stepper motor on the back of the plenum (do a search). The not starting when hot sounds like a component under the bonnet doesn't like getting warm, can't remember if the Discos have a dizzy, if so I would say the ignition amplifier on the side of the dizzy, or coil is getting weak.
  6. 230-250Kg at most I would say....
  7. Erm, I would measure them, as people on here will tell you, some 35s are actually 36.5", and some are 34"! In fact, I measure my 33x10.50" Simex JT2s up against some Hankook 35x12.5 RT03s and there was less than half an inch in it....
  8. Of course they will, feast your eyes: http://www.mez.co.uk/ms12.html
  9. Yes, the kickdown cable controls the box pressure, which controls the tension placed on the gearbox brake bands, if it is disconnected then the pressure is too little allowing the bands to permanently slip, and burn out very very quickly. Well that is my simpletons version of how it works
  10. Have you checked the oil level in the box? Should be done cold, when idling, run up and down the gears in order then leave it in neutral -check dipstick.
  11. 24V alternator and a tiny battery? Otherwise, Bowyers turbo boost does exactly what you are talking about with linking the two batteries for 24V, but in all honesty I think a second alternator would be cheaper!
  12. I did the same as Nige and quite a few other people, was discussed here: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=63968&hl=&fromsearch=1 We are of course, assuming you are going EFI and not clockwork 19th Century technology If you are having to frig the diesel tank anyways, the above solution is actually the simplest, and least time consuming as you get it all done at the same time.
  13. Just please use this vehicle as inspiration of what NOT to do: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270815205063 :sob:
  14. Ah yes, you are right, except about the yellow whizzy thing, it's black Not gonna be able to hear the lovely V8 over all the jet-engine-like fan noise
  15. Nice work Nige You thinking of putting a small fan in front/behind the oil cooler? Where it is, if you are off-road and doing low speed it will hardly have any effect... unless you have any other fans of course
  16. I'd use small ratchet straps, bungees will give too much.
  17. Yes, but only for a couple of hours IIRC, this sort of query should be in the 'LR4x4 Matters' forum btw
  18. Soft-dash, when they revamped the interior of the RRC in ~1994/5 just prior to the P38 arriving.
  19. Agreed, each bike ~ 15Kg = 60Kg, plus the spare at what... 30Kg, if it's standard size? Looking at it again, the Halfords one would still be my option -I don't own one but have used one quite a few time, work very nicely and no need to remove from the truck when not in use.
  20. Not used that one, but the Halfords over-the-spare-tyre 4 bike rack is very good at what it does, and has built in straps.
