  5. That's quite Coll and I am rather embarrassed to say I quite like it, butt.... Why the winch?
  6. Ff the ign wiring colour codes are the same on disco1 s and defenders. Infact all of the engine wiring colours are the same across the def and disco... Made my life a bit easier in the past :-)
  7. ive put multi-coloured on my v5..... so when i change it (which i do quite often...) i dont have to bother telling them.
  8. Do your self a favour and paint the inside with anti condensation paint otherwise you'll have a very rusty landy
  9. the rover t16 was mentioned above as a good alternative to a tdi.... i would have to disagree my disco was a mpi (t16 with no turbo) and even after i;d traybacked it so it as significantly lighter it was still a over revvy underpowered dog! yes it might have 120bhp(ish) but it makes no torque and all the bhp is at the top end! it was useless for towing, so bad in fact that i did a 100 mile trip with it half of which it had 3.5 ton behind it and had to push it so hard to even get up the hills it ate its rings and died in a cloud of smoke! i got it home by topping the oil up every 20 miles! even for a series with its lightness (lol) i wouldnt recommend one. they are just so unsuited for landrover use. the 200tdi out performs it in spades....
  10. I used to get 18mpg on a run from my mpi disco and 3!! Mpg with 3.5 ton behind it.... Your better off with a v8, seriously!
  11. +1 get a ezibleed off ebay or a vacuum bleeder, they work very well ime. if you do get a vacuum bleeder though, wrap all the bleed nipple threads in ptfe tape before you start or you will get nowhere....(a good practice imho anyway) having said all that, if your sure there is no air in the lines and it is still spongey then it will be the master.
  12. 'cept most people on this forum of course. but then we're not normal....
  13. how about going electric? looking at that myself for my challenge motor as my mech pump is worn out.....
  14. Lemme guess you had 60 diffs in it? No wonder it was groaning lol
  15. You should have said something I,d have had them...
  16. Pegged 4 pin diffs and Ashcroft half shafts and cvs should handle it
  17. so this is now done but i STILL havent gotten around to taking more pictures...... and driving it has been put on hold again... because i need to get my new workshop built. "why" i hear you saying... well i had a moment of weakness and decided i have too much capital tied up in the lorry which simply isnt getting used enough. so i need to sell my lorry, sell my car and buy a 4x4 tow car i thought to my self. so off to ebay i went. bevvie in hand. you know where this is going dont you. £900 later ive bought this... only issue is its in sodding london! so off i go to get it. took me 13 hours on sunday. and the reason i need the workshop post haste? well it doesnt exactly run. the top end of the engine looks like a bomb has hit it. should be fun! glutton for punishment me. still full leather climate control auto and soo nice to drive (dad had one back in 03 when they had just come out...)
  18. i just had a chuckle at a mental image of Ian_Fearn opening a locker on his new wolf and finding it full of grenades
  19. take the leaves out of the new barrel and fit to the old. working barrel and same key.
  20. so a bit more has gotten done. cooling system completely piped up tested and working fine. wont get hot enough to turn fans on. i have 2 cheap ebay fans attached straight to the core. ive got a temp sensing circuit to put in im hoping i can wire it to the cars temp sensor. i have also replaced the seals and wheel bearings on the rear axle, fixed both winches after a lot of faffing, turns out the isolator for the rear whilst it was passing enough current to test ok wasn't passing enough to run the winch. a quick emery paper of the black contacts inside and its fine now. i of course missed the competition but that was mostly work related (just didnt have time to work on it) so now just to do is repair the steering box (lower shaft seal is leaking.) and wire up the fans and do some tidying up of the front end to make it derivable again. oh and change the side repeater on the lorry that i whacked off on the way home from the mot  ive been working more than taking pics so ill take more tomorrow if i get a chance but those that i do have follow...
  21. I received the cheapie eBay fans as detailed in the thread earlier, they look to be just the job, i have the advantage to be fitting them to a rear rad 200tdi so what with the extra cooling surface of a p38 v8 rad and all the extra cooling capacity of the long piped I don't expect to need much fan assistance but I will report back on their effectiveness.
