  1. Hi Interesting. I see the fault code started as P1270 and ended up as P1470. Typo or two faults? Currently chasing a very intermittent P1470.
  2. Most modern vehicles now come without a spare or tool kit, both of which are normally (expensive) optional extras. Generally when people change cars (newer similar model) they'll remove the the spare if they've bought one, and put back the original foam insert that fits in place of the spare, like the OP's vehicle. We often find nothing in the boot of trade in's as the owners have kept the spare and not replaced the insert, adding to the cost of a used car prep'.
  3. Surely from a practical point, you'd want them switched separately? In fog/snow you want the fronts on for forward visibility and the rears off to avoid dazzling following vehicles.
  4. I'm surprised these manifolds haven't appeared on here before, they've been around a few years. I had a short conversation with the bloke that sells/makes them once, and he was talking utter garbage regarding how they worked. They are going to do nothing for performance. However, it's interesting regarding the "feeling smoother" part, as altering the shape of the manifold will have an effect on felt/heard intake resonance. That can certainly determine how an engine feels.
  5. Yes, the brackets will fit all mechanical pumps, 200 or 300tdi. I think all except possibly the earliest 300tdi autos had EDC, and that's a completely different set up that won't fit a non EDC pump.
  6. Are there fault codes in any of the other modules for lost communication with the ECU? If you run a CAN bus check via a scan tool, does it find all the modules except the ECU or does it show ECU found but no data?
  7. What's the actual problem with the vehicle that needed you to plug a scan tool in ? I've seen a dead immobiliser unit block comm's with the engine ECU and nothing else, wasn't on a Jag though, and the vehicle wouldn't start.
  8. Yes and no. I did it on my mine but it didn't last. The problem is the sector shaft is hung on a bearing in the top cap, when you adjust the box you're pulling the shaft/gear upwards and deeper into mesh. I struggled find a position for the sleeve that still allowed some movement on the shaft. It was also awkward to peel off the flare at the base of the sleeve (needs to come off or it fouls the seal pack) and that was with the box on the bench. I thought I posted up some pictures when I did it. After it leaked again I fitted a proper recon Adwest 4 bolt, as I wanted to fit a Disco drop arm at some point to do away with that stupid ball joint. Edit to add, yes I did post when I did it, April 2015. No useful pics though. My repair lasted a few thousand miles before a drip appeared. That's when the four bolt went in, still dry 5 years later.
  9. To illustrate the point, this is the area of the sector shaft that the seal runs on. Shaft is from my old six bolt box.
  10. The 3 bolt Adwest box is the one listed as "Heavyweight". Then the Adwest 4 bolt as "lightweight" and the six bolt is just a Gemmer. My practical experience of all the boxes would indicate little difference other than the six bolt Gemmer is less prone to leaking. This. A proper box overhaul includes the worn area of the sector shaft being metal sprayed and reground, fitting a seal kit alone rarely works for long. That's why recon boxes have a poor reputation. There are companies out there that do a proper job, but they'll be more expensive than the "fit a seal kit and paint it" ones on ebay.
  11. I thought the shock position looked odd, just checked mine... the same. Shows how much attention I pay!
  12. Mine were similar to those, the id of the ring is too small. They came second hand but unused from ebay so I took a grinder to them, still plenty of metal left in them. I also seem to recall re drilling the holes.
  13. The AA have now got the Freelander and my basic property cover, Defender is going to Flux. I'm still looking at tool/equipment insurance. It certainly wont be NFU. Always dealt with the local office at Stagsden, 15 min's from work. I have no idea why the premiums have suddenly jumped.
  14. NFU have just increased the premiums on all my policies for no apparent reason, I was a loyal customer for 25 years. I've told them to do one and saved nearly £1000.
  15. An old thread indeed, one I started nearly seven years ago! I'm pleased to say the Britpart cellulars are still working well. Cosmetically there's a few rust spots from stone chips, but not covered in corrosion like the Terrafirma's I'd seen. Performance wise, perhaps they could be marginally stiffer when loaded but that's a minor criticism. Excellent value for money.
  16. I went, and very good it was too, chatting to lots of very interesting people. Still more a gathering than a show.
  17. Mo, I have a brand new EFI filter here (assuming I can find it) that you can have for free. I'll have a look tomorrow and pm you if you're interested.
  18. Do this, but once everything is clean and dried, give it a good dusting in talcum powder before bolting it up. When you drop it apart again the source of the oil should be easy to track in the powder.
  19. We use Caltech, calteccalibration.co.uk for all our tools. The engineer turns up in a van and does everything from torque wrenches to tyre gauges, takes him a good few hours. I have 3 Britool's and one Snap-on torque wrench, all over 30 years old, none have ever had more than very minimal correction and they're used every day. Tbh it's not worth the cost unless you use it daily in a professional capacity.
  20. You can get spacers to move the head unit further out. I think Mud uk used to do them. Just google "single din spacer".
  21. The old MOT cert' is not invalidated, nothing has changed. The press keep getting this wrong. Having an MOT cert' does not exempt you from prosecution for a defect, it never has. If you drive after a failure, or at any time with a defect and you still have valid MOT, the offence is related to the defect and that alone. Drive with a defect or not, with an expired MOT and the offence is no valid MOT plus whatever if any defect. They are two separate offences.
