  1. We have 2 tanks in most vehicles - either a big 2nd one or, like in the 88", a 10 ltr. night heater one. Works very well. Mount them high and you don't need the pump.

Oh yes - we have here most Winters -15 C - and I take the vehicles into cold places, like eastern Europe, inside the Artic circle and up in the Alps - and we've had several times - 44 C in Lapland.. Going into Russia in 2 weeks to play with trains and it is a bit chilly there. Going for bigger and bigger batteries that eventually will not get the job done - many years ago we started using engine pre-heaters that include warming up the interior and the battery itself. We run the heaters from a 2nd battery so the starter battery is 100 % ready for the job. This helps a lot - the coolant is about 50 - 60 C, depending on how the wind is, and the interior is just fine. We sleep in them aswell on those trips and saves draging a lot of sleepingbags with you.. Engines usu. start on the button without pre-glowing. Obviously, the initial cost of the heater is for many a thing but we find them to be well worth the investment.

We have "Numax CXV35MF Sealed Leisure Batteries" in the Land Rovers with both 200 & 300 Tdi's and they usually get the job done. Even at minus 20 C. However, I suggest fitting an engine pre-Heater like Webasto and Ebensprächer so make for so much easier starting. We have them and the really help to make starting easier at very low temperatures.

    s3 value.

Sorry to say - to us, scrap value. However, other often think otherwise due to the magazines, Barn Finds and what have we. By the sound of it, it is basically a logbook with scrap attached. Have Fun !
  5. Cutting the speedo cable is a good opton - I'll have a look at the sensors... Thanks
  6. I'm not allowed near paint........ The Mrs. is very good with the paintgun....
  7. Nah.... Just the bonnet. Paint is expensive...
  8. Looking good - 4 pot with 3.5 ltrs..... Hmm, don't we love the DVLA... This happen when a mad Dutchman is let loose on a Series Hybrid..... Flush front, Defender winch bumper, etc..... Will need to ask HerLadyShip to do a quick spray job to make it sort of look red..... Really upsets the neighbours....
  9. Interesting post as I have been faced with the same problem fitting the 200 Tdi in the Hybrid. Eventually ended up going to a machine shop place in Holand to get them done. Crate of beer was enough - esp. when they learned I got good beer...
  10. See it as an investment..... ... I have 2 spare engines on 3 vehicles.....
  11. Goede Avond, I use the " Brantz International 2 Pro rally trip meter" ind was wondering what others with these meters use for the signaal input. I used to have magnets on the hand brake drum - but with the new set up, that's not an option. There is no drum.. Suggestions please !
  12. Welcome to the Madhouse ! Looks very, very nice !
  13. Yes...... There is a reason why my new office and workshop are under one roof.....
  14. Oh yes..... Know that feeling. The ABRI we build last year for the horses was a serious energy taker... A lot of concrete, steel and heavy beams... This one is even bigger.. ...not to mention the 33 x 6 x 4 mtrs ABRI the Mrs. wants build next year for hay, firewood, trailer and trucks...
  15. Why is building a workshop so interesting..... We need to take down some old stuff and then build a new roof, walls and, obviously, the electricity and a ramp. Not to mention concrete...
  16. May not be viewed outside your country it seems...
  17. Goede Avond, Here in France there is the law and there is life. We can build as we see fit - up to a certain degree - but trouble starts when you have problems and the insurance company is difficult. So far, the French have been quite impressed with what we build...
  18. Well..... we're in the process of getting the materials for the new vehicle workshop & my office we're going to be building this year - roughly 14 x 8,5 x 4 mtrs. but all steel I'm afraid. Needs to be functional and not too expensive.... For those interested, once we've begun, I'll start posting pics etc. as at the moment there is not a lot to be seen...
  19. Don't underestimate the volume of traffic a good forum generates. I ran several over the years and volume costs money. We'll see....
