daveturnbull
I'm finally getting round to replacing my butchered southdown snorkel with a new stainless pipe, but need some way to mount it to the roll cage. Snorkel is 3" tube, roll cage is 1.5". I don't mind welding something to the cage, but would rather leave the snorkel alone. Lets see your creations for inspiration. zardos
So a big question that could impact the solution a lot is are the snorkel and cage tube running parallel to each other? Or does the solution need to accommodate an angle? My thoughts are some type of P Clip or other pipe or cable bracket or cleat for the snorkel and then another for the cage or weld on mounting point. e.g.https://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/pipe-fittings-c433/rubber-lined-unlined-steel-pipe-brackets-c244/ https://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/pipe-fittings-c433/rubber-lined-unlined-steel-pipe-brackets-c244/ orhttps://abbeyclamps.co.uk/products/p-clips-saddle-clamps/klamp-works-standard/ or https://www.jointingtech.co.uk/Single-Bolt-Heavy-Duty I've used similar for water hose mounting. landroversforever
PPCages make some nice clamps with a single bolt in the middle so they take up any difference in tube diameters. Can't find a picture of them, but they're like two shallow 'm' shapes that go one on each side and a single bolt in the middle. EDIT: I lied.... it's Devon 4x4.... https://www.devon4x4.com/d44-snorkel-roll-cage-clamp.html
zardos
When mounting the water pipes for my rear rad I was amazed at how large you could get various cable and pipe fixings in. If forgot to add something with exhaust u bolts e.g.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Exhaust-Steel-Clamps-U-Bolt-Hex-Auto-Car-Clip-Repair-Pipe-Hose-Aerial Edited December 21, 2018 by zardos
steve200TDi
I did this on the racer. And I've still got to do this on the 90 I got some clamp brackets laser cut Steve
Arjan
Welding a tat on the snorkel should be fine & simple. That 's I'm gonna do..
landroversforever
That's what I was going to do for mine too.
zardos
With the saddle type clamps or the P clips you could get one for the snorkel size and the cage size and join them sideways using one bolt through one of the side clamping bolts
ThreeSheds
On my old RRC it was big, fat cable ties...
daveturnbull
I quite like those Devon 4x4 / Steve 200tdi ones. Bit pricey from Devon tho.
Jon White
Why not just buy the Southdown ones if it’s a Southdown snorkel? They work well and are stainless.
Daan
Problem with any p clips, clamps or tyraps etc. as mentioned so far is that it does ok to keep the snorkel in place against wind, but clouting it against a tree is going to result in your snorkel being pushed against or through the screen. To protect it against this weld the clamp to the cage or fabricate a bracket to do this, like so: I have a 2 mm stainless band around it which bolts to the bracket with m6 nut and bolts. on both ends. Another bracket on the top screen rail stops it from rotating. This is a 3" snorkel. Daan
miketomcat
How about using either a jubilee clip or mikalor clamp with a shaped piece of nylon or Ali in between the cage and snorkel. So a triangle of nylon with the cage radius cut in the point and the snorkel radius in the base. Then the clamp around the lot, you may need a small fixing or location blob to stop the infill from moving. Mike
FridgeFreezer
I trapped a chunky cable tie under the jubilee clip that holds the snorkel top on, and then put the jubilee around the snorkel.
Bowie69
I have a C-shaped piece of stainless contoured to the cage and the snorkel, and it held to each with 4 very large pop rivets! Just a standard Southdown affair.
