I'm disappointed - I thought you were going to start fabricating a bulkhead out of that plate. <_<

For a moment there I did wonder if he was about to build a lightweight armour-plated aluminium bulkhead

Watching with interest... as if I'd ever have the time or skill to do it

Put it this way - you'd have the skill once you'd finished...

To be fair I think the biggest advantage Stephen has over us is a good scrap pile! I've been slowly accumulating mine and it's surprising once you've got some stock how quickly and easily you can start to knock things together. I built a link box for the back of my little tractor out of scrap, built a quick-remove concealed bike rack for my sisters old house out of scrap I had lying around.

Don't worry about the skill just follow @Ed Poore advice

The better the scrap pile the more skill you will have.........

If that makes sense....lol

Right I'm away to buy 30 tonnes of scrap...

It looks pretty good - for comparison have you got a pic of the steel equivalent to hand to compare against? :)

As requested,

The sides aren't as steep as the steel one, but that was homemade using a cover from a motor junction box regards Stephen

First stab this morning at making full hinge panel

One thing I have learnt is softwood is no good as a bending template, will make steel ones later in the week

Couple of sheets of 2mm aluminium annealed

I'm reasonably happy with that, steel formers will make corners on folds a wee bit sharper or I may try folding in my gabro although I need the formers for the curved flange at the top

Once the corners are tigged up, blended and painted should be not to bad at all

Mk2 panel in the press

20220714_124939.thumb.jpg.5528c54f29a0e1c35587151820a6ea5a.jpg

again pressed OK, you can see where the edge has rippled with the stretching process

a wee bit of planishing later it's not too bad, that section folds over at 90 degrees so all good, now to make steel formers, not happy with wood ones regards Stephen
