FridgeFreezer
Just to update; Mike & I are planning to go out next Thursday (31st) either in convoy with Jez or with him as a passenger, depending - he's back in the UK tomorrow for "some cancer stuff". Jez has now sourced an 80 series Land Cruiser that's going to become an ambulance - we've got a shopping list for that which @honitonhobbit has already very generously helped with, but we need some decent 265/65R17 all-terrains, a winch contactor, maybe a bumper/mount. Tonight's job is taking a shopping list from Joe the paramedic and about £1800 from the JustGiving fund and ordering a vast pile of medical gear to stuff into what's being dubbed the Rambulance. Anyone with surplus gear from the back of an ambulance please get in touch - we need all the stuff you need for scooping people & bits of people up & getting them to safety. Big shopping list of horror at: https://flyingspanners.uk/wp/index.php/2022/03/09/urgent-medical-supplies/ For all the folks who wanted to buy Jez a cab heater, I've just ordered two of them - one for Jez, one for the Rambulance - so if you put pennies in the pot for that it's just been spent... if you didn't and were going to, please feel free to do so!
Popular Post FridgeFreezer
What a week this has been; all of us have been running round like mad collecting stuff, blagging stuff, packing boxes and making many many inappropriate jokes about medical devices. In the course of a couple of evenings I think I spent about 2k on medical supplies for our paramedic chap (Joe) most of which I have no idea what they are or where they go and don't really want to find out Things have been arriving at home & work - stuff I've ordered, stuff other people have ordered, stuff people have sent out of the goodness of their hearts, or just to have another set of fingerprints on it. I can't name everyone who's helped and donated - a few of them should probably stay anonymous for legal reasons - but you all know who you are & it's hugely appreciated. A nice retired lady from Tilehurst heard me on the radio and has now adopted us as her #1 mission, I have the feeling they could just send her in directly to take out Putin hand-to-hand she's so fired up about this but she's pulled some absolute blinders for us through the community grapevine - not least of which is a set of brand new BFG AT's for the ambulance thanks to the sex gods at Elite Wheels & Tyres in Reading who I will humbly suggest you should all order your next set of tyres from as they are clearly the most smashing of chaps. If you are so inclined they have some very sexy alloy wheels for vans and the like too. The lovely chaps at Sumo Sams t-shirts and stickers have also sorted us out some red cross stickery things for the ambulance, so you should all buy customised T-Shirts and hoodies from them too. Mr @honitonhobbit has been an absolute darling donating all manner of large heavy lumps of metal from his extensive collection, we love you long time 😍 I can now barely see the 109 in my garage such is the pile of gear that people have donated - and that's before we get to the community centre's stock! Not pictured - huge pile of stuff behind me stopping me from getting any more stuff in shot. Behold the FlyingSpanners Rambulance of great justice: This is due to be violated in several ways to get it up to spec for the job of scooping people up and carrying them to less explodey locations in as few pieces as possible. Also the destination has been modified to Jez's house (Czech Republic) which means the boss has granted permission for the works van to be used - it uses a little more fuel but makes up for it in boot space... plan is to unbolt the bed and put all the most delicate medical supplies in the back, leaving the trailer for larger lumpier items. In case anyone's wondering - the 127 would not make a better fit than the TLC for the purpose at hand as it's a bit big, it's the wrong fuel type, and the locals vastly prefer and are familiar with Toyotas. Also, I'm quite attached to it. Also, she'd kill me
miketomcat
I don't think kill you quite covers it, I think bury you alive somewhere unpleasant is closer. Seeing as it's taken a month and change of destination to convince her. Mike

Only real sticking point is a spare 17" rim for the TLC.

landroversforever
Sorry! The wheels! What size/spec does it need to be? Got a couple of friends at work who might know the whereabouts of a wheel!
FridgeFreezer
It's a one of them Toyota things, HDJ80 1990 Land Cruiser, it's got... axles... and stuff...and the rims are 17", that's all I know. Almost anything would do.
FridgeFreezer
In other news we have secured more vital medical supplies... And a big box to put them in: And more lovely companies have helped us out with bits - Furneuax Riddall have provided some wiring stuff so that Jez can add more disco lights & fluffy dice to the Toybulance and the good people at Bonwycke Design found a roll of security window film for us.

miketomcat
Truck and trailer are roughly the same length. We are back at the tunnel now so just the train and English stint to do. Jez has collected the TLC but unfortunately it has done a bearing on the way back hopefully he's due home soon. Just heard jez has got the land cruiser home, let the ambulance conversion begin. miketomcat
We're home now. Job done thanks to all that helped us along the way. Jez is still battling on out there and still needs our help and support. Mike
