ciderman
Not sure if I heard correctly but on the radio I heard that Ford Motor company are putting Jaguar and Land Rover on the market . Any one else hear this ??
siearl
I Was under the impression that Jaguar had been put up for sale a while ago and ford had added Land Rover as an incentive.

HoSS
Anyone got £3bn sitting about, to keep it British?...... I don't think T shirt sales or forum stickers are quite going to cover it.
nas90
So Land Rover put a BMW engine in the Rangie when they are owned by BMW, now we get the Jag engine and finally the Ford Transit engine in the Defender now they are owned by Ford. I just hope LR don't get bought by Toyota because we will all be driving with an electric motor some of the time
Turbocharger
Actually, I could quite go for an electric motor. Loads of torque, all at zero speed, very controllable ... where's the downside?
ciderman
Be nice if VW bought them out , we might get a W12 in a defender.
western
downside = rest of truck full of stupendously huge batteries.
Roverdrive
You just beat me to it. I saw the article on the BBC web site as well, but the link is a lot more elegant than my cutting and pasting! We've been here before and I am sure things will continue. The only thing is that I am sure any future buyer will be looking at more fuel efficient - read smaller- cars in the line up. serendipity
My dream buyer would be that Bamford chap (or whatever his name might be) who owns JCB. I am getting a mental picture of what british roads would look like festoooned in bright yellow 90's and 110's sporting huge tractor tyres. Maybe they would have to offer a few colour options... Lewis
Land Rover for sale again? Just another day at the office. Land Rover has been offered as an incentive to sweeten the Jaguar deal several times, Jaguar hasnt turned a profit since ford bought the company 18 years ago. Mr Bamford (JCB owner) expressed an interest in Land Rover as far back as when British Aerospace were selling, however in more recnet times (last year) he was only interested in Jaguar as a separate entity Interestingly Land Rover UK's previous Managing Director (Mathew Taylor) left LR to join JCB Sorry to be geeky but its a bit of a specialist subject for me, Its the time of the year when you have to start denying ever having worked on a Jaguar lest you become a Jaguar employee overnight when the sale comes Lewis

bill van snorkle
There was talk a while ago that Ford had no real interest in continuing the Defender lineup. I wonder if when they talk about offloading LandRover, they actually mean just Defender? as I believe the Range Rover , Discovery and Freelander are performing quite well in the marketplace. I too would like to see Defender aquired by JCB. A beefed up(everywhere) Defender with JCB engineering input would compliment their tractors and earth movers very nicely and would offer contractors and farmers one stop shopping and servicing when putting together a working fleet. Bill.
Bomag
You never know, theres so much linked to LR and Jaguar. Franchise dealers, parts shops, driver training, doesnt look good. Hint, if new buyer suggests it will be fitting one of their engines to a model, you know they will be selling the brand very soon! Look at BMW, now Ford. Bill. when you put it like that it seems odd that JCB have not until now added a utility truck to their range. One imagines the development and logistics of going to a "real" mass production run was prohibitive. So maybe there is hope now, sounds like a smart option and a good one for enthusiasts too
Corrode Finger
Anyone got a spare venture capital company floating about, or know any russian bussiness men? Jez might be the man with russian connections after saving lives, one Russian sqillionaire, small british specialist company, shut.................. hmmm, that was TVR, on second thoughts, best leave the russians out of british car manufacturer purchasing. Exmoor Beast
Separating Defender out of the equation makes sense. JCB would be ideal and could go back to basics and build it as a tractor as it should be. If people want comfortable seats, soundproofing etc there are plenty of folk out there in the World to do it for them as an aftersales service. Keep Defender cheap and simple. I wonder if theres a way round the USA import situation if Defender was a 'Tractor' ??? Will
jules
The wife is in banking she said the worriying thing is that its more likely to be bought and then stripped of all its assets sold in bits and closed down which is one posibility
JSG
It's amazing when you think of the number of automotive 'brands' that have dissapeared over the years. Jaguar is a name that shouldn't dissapear.......... And as for Landrover - well as far as i'm concerned its still the leading brand name for 4x4. By far. Exmoor Beast
If the Chinese start making noises about buying LR there will be trouble. Maybe the Queen should flog off a few baubles and buy it. She could make them slapdash Brummies that build them step into line or be locked in the tower. Selling the jewels off would free up some space to lock a few in there and make examples of them Just thinking outside the box for moment...
