  1. I agree with that - I guess my experience though is that the initial response is what I want controlling as I can easily drive round the rest. Thus the moose comment. It's those sudden steering inputs to miss something, often on a neutral throttle, that can really upset the balance of the suspension - and my shocks have helped with that a lot.
  2. What's the plan then Mo? I mean they will make a difference - they are there to control body by dampening the springs - but it's just a risk I guess that they won't make enough of a difference relative to the cost. I guess the obvious thing to say is though that with the Armstrong shocks, valved for the standard ride, the extra weight and leverage will be too much for them. I get nervous about body roll these days after my crash. The 'moose scenario' is it called ?
  3. I know what you mean Marc, and you can adjust to the compromise - but sometimes Its perhaps gone too far. Not that I think Mo's cage has.On the motorbike subject I ran a race bike on the road - including running to bump start it, a narrow power and, close ratio box etc and filling it up with Avgas at the local airport. Not something I'd do now so readily.
  4. I think the main role of a shock is to limit/control body movement - so well worth a go.
  5. Seems strangely unfortunate that the cage increases your safety if you were to roll it - but peversley increases the likelihood of it happening
  6. I was going to say shocks. On the 90 I have now I've fitted Bilstein B6 off road shocks - standard height - and they've made a huge difference. The car is much stiffer on the road but it doesn't seem to have lost any suppleness off road. I don't think they are mad money either. One of those mods that has no compromise and you think: why didn't Land Rover fit these?
  7. The detail is fantastic - like the way he's kicked it up and boxed it in around the wiper motor.
  8. They've made a beautiful job haven't they ! Really nice and clean and such a good finish on everything.
  9. This looks like it was well done and seems a very honest description - I'm not too sure about the roll cage, but I'm a bit ignorant of the design of a good one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/201571927623
  10. Winton - have you seen this : http://www.radiozet.pl/Rozrywka/O-tym-sie-mowi/Bryan-Adams-w-Polsce.-Tak-wyglada-jego-Land-Rover-Defender-ZDJECIA-00010716 Someone's fitted a series 2 dash here.
  11. Thanks folks. It's a bit awkward for me to borrow a trailer - but I didn't want to take a fair drive to pick one up and find I couldn't get it in.
  12. ... an engine hoist in the back of a 90 ? Or would I need to borrow a trailer to pick one up ?
  13. I think the only one that chap really missed out on dynoing was the safari one - they make a point of saying it can meet / exceed the air requirements of the engine. It would have been interesting to confirm or deny that.
  14. Yes ...... the budget clearly didn't stretch to the interior.
  15. If you do a search you'll find tons of stuff on this. Safari used to make one that had a pipe that passed through the wing - whereas my understanding is that they now make them so they seal against the wing like the Mantec one does and thus has challenges around it sealing properly. Another thing to search for is whether they are restrictive - I know the chap from Bell Auto Services did some dyno runs with snorkels on and showed some significant airflow loss with some brand(s). If you aren't bothered about going fast or going near water though - then just fit the one you like the look of best.
  16. Whereas 'Coniston Green' sounds more like a Vicar ? The Reverand Coniston Green was delighted his new 2 series Land Rover helped him reach his remote parish church.
  17. MT94 is pretty thin .... But I wouldn't say it has the same viscosity as water ..... It's still kind of ..... Oily ....
  18. I'd definitely swap the 200 parts over - the 200 is a good engine and swapping the parts over cant be that bad - lots of people have done it, plus there will be loads of folk on here who could support it with answering questions etc. The 200 defender set up is quite sought after - and you'll likely never end up with another alternative that looks as 'factory' as your factory one does now.
  19. It wasn't slipping on the drum - it was just the rope not being under a constant tension if that makes sense ? So a coil would suddenly be loose before the strength of the pull put the next under tension. Securing it wise I have one of those double loops that trap the coils against the drum.
  20. I had mine quite right - though with a bit of cross pattern on it, because when I had it more loosely spooled I was getting 'slips' as I was winching - which seemed pretty dangerous and made things that little bit unpredictable. Can anyone help with that ?
  21. Here's another 'series 1' http://r.ebay.com/IJnzWv Ridiculous ....
  22. Just what I was gong to say - excellent site for the D2 / Td5 main maintenance items. Also what I was about to say - it looks lovely. I think D2's look really well with subtle upgrades. Decent tyres and a facelift grill.
