  1. I am learning - thus the asking! Thanks for the link - any info is gratefully received.
  2. Thank you chaps! I knew they weren't certified for lifting - just trying to give an example of a frictionless pull. I presume there are some complex maths to work out resistance for different surfaces and gradients - but with my winch being 3x the weight of the truck I should hopefully be fine.
  3. Have a look on Detail world - or the Meguiars UK forum. There are some professionals who post up pics of their work on there. Detail world is a bit boy racer - should be called retail world as they all spend a fortune on high quality detail products. A good guy will clay your car to clean the surface, then measure the paint depth to see how deep they can cut with a paint cleaner. Then polish it. Then wax it - they'll also use an orbital polisher where the mop moves around as well as spinning. There is a great guy in Manchester who is mobile but I think its a bit far! Its not cheap to get a proper job done of course...
  4. Basic question - how is the line pull of a winch measured? My winch is rated 14,000lbs, which is 6.25 tons. Is this the weight that the winch is rated to pull without friction - ie if it was lifting the weight? I know that manufacturers and sellers seem to suggest you should calculate the winch rating by taking the gross vehicle weight and multiplying it by 1.5 - is that to allow for resistance and friction acting against the load? Stephen
  5. I heard that the Army guys, as an in field repair, would urinate in theirs to replace it ..... works well on the indicators but not so good on the headlights.
  6. The title reads "better or worse" I think we should add - "for richer or for poorer!"
  7. The engine was stolen? and replaced with a petrol 2.25 ????
  8. Can't be anywhere in the Uk though where you could spend 3 days driving and it all be in green lanes??
  9. In that first pic your fairlead looks way over to the left of the truck?? then it moves into the centre but I can't see a rope or cable? can enlighten me!
  10. That's one of the questions on the auction - he's looked and its not there iirc. I think DVLA are used to taking the word of classic car and bike clubs who hold extensive archives and validate bikes to receive age related plates. I sent a question about this 'series 2' on ebay before it finished asking what was left of the original series vehicle .... I got a 3 word reply that didn't get posted to the advert - 'the log book' Fortunately no one bid on it.
  11. I thought paddocks were the ones that were alright with good service etc...? Didn't we have a thread recently about good and bad ones?
  12. Asking twice? http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=38894&hl=
  13. I have a 00 TD5 on an X - I don't think I will be bothering with a remap..... I've not found a lane yet where I've thought I could do with more power here - so I think I'll leave it as is. [EDIT: didn't notice this was the Disco forum - mines a Defender]
  14. Sparg If you zoom in on the photo you can see the winch - its grey with the motor on our left as you look at it, with a red sticker on it. the drum is directly behind the fairlead. Sadly the bumper is from the orange people.
  15. I can't believe they are still in conflict over this - surely they would have acknowledged that neither are going to cancel their show and just arrange a change of dates? I'm sure this is putting a fair number of people off going to either.
  16. that said - trailmaster - are you serious about selling your set up?
  17. I asked because I'd quite like to try matching the travel - whilst keeping the stock front arms too - even though that in effect limits the travel.
  18. Super clean build! Are they Gwyn's turrets? Any reason you've not gone for the challenge ones with the relocation cone built in?
  19. I believe you can refill them yourself with 'tears of frustration' - I'm sure someone will have some spare if you don't have any at the moment?
  20. I got an email of Gwyn just this morning.... They will work with standard springs. If you plan on many road miles then he recommends the EMU or terrafirma shocks as they have stronger damping.
  21. I thought only Japanese spec cars did that?
  22. I can't provide much help, sorry. I would say though if you are going to start throwing money at it I'd buy an X brake. I intend to. I'm not sure even when they are sorted that they are entirely reliable. Mine sometimes fades terribly - and there is nothing wrong with it.
  23. and the turning circle of a super tanker......?
