  1. It seals between top of the B pillar and the roof, filling the space that is otherwise sealed by the top part of the two door seals.
  2. As lo-fi says it isn't a tell-tale as such, it actually supplies volts to the alternator in order to get it generating itself. Only when it is up and running will it present its own 12v onto that terminal and that is what extinguishes the charge lamp (12v at both ends, one from the alt and one from the battery). Are you absolutely sure that you are connecting the warning lamp to D and not W???
  3. We use LV=Britannia Rescue. Have UK personal cover and then for the declared vehicle (1996 110 in our case), all EU plus a few other countries too for up to about 30 day trips. When we first checked the market a few years ago the RAC said they’d only cover one breakdown per foreign trip which was a bit of a negative point.
  4. We are currently in mountains in Spain at 1,000m and the nearest shack is just below and the nearest village is miles away. I have a full 3G signal and to be honest we’ve hardly been without a signal here or in other Sierra further north. It couldn’t be more different from the UK. At home in the Peak District we have sporadic reception and there’s still “fuss” over permissions for masts, sometimes from the public.
  5. With a huge amount of data now bundled with SIM cards, just use the radio app on your phone.
  6. I pay £180 with NFU and that price was the renewal for this year too so no increase and that was without asking. i think it’s very hard for you to make comparisons with other people. It all depends an exact personal circumstances including their particular interpretation of your risk.
  7. Thanks for this @LandyManLuke and @FridgeFreezer I’ve just done mine on a campsite with the alternator on the vehicle as per FF (300TDi). Not difficult and a whole lot easier with the confidence provided by reading this thread. In my case the symptoms have been sudden over voltage, not all the time but intermittent up to 18V. Can’t really test until we get on the road again. It’s an “Eco” site and I doubt high revs and idling would go down very well.
  8. Well just to close my aside, Eaton manufactures major systems for commercial aircraft and I bet you wouldn't make the same statements (without the first hand experience that you agree you don't have), on a forum discussing the very aeroplanes that you pilot. Hope you take that in the friendly way in which it is intended.
  9. Just an aside I see you have suggested problems due to "far east". I know nothing about these Eaton units but I do know about Eaton generally, as I worked for them and ran an operation. They are such a high performing company placing huge demands on their design and manufacturing operations that they would never compromise their product because of geographical location. I have also led manufacturing operations improvement work in other businesses in China and again there are some world class operations there. It's easy to tar them all with the same brush but I think you need to be cautious.
  10. Yes I have one like that but the head unit is very short and there's room for the ISO connector inside that mounting. It is only FM, with AUX in and USB though, no DAB so maybe that's why it is a shorty.
  11. If the relay is electro-mechanical and theres nothing except your fused circuits connected to the output poles then the voltage has to come from somewhere else. That's assuming there is a current flowing when you are measuring your 0.5v. Otherwise it's probably nothing to worry about anyway.
  12. Where are you measuring the 0.5v do you mean output side and ground/chassis? Sounds like a bit of back feed through all that gear from the engine side of the system.
  13. Ah OK then. G for Good quality maybe...
  14. The G is intended to refer to "genuine" I believe. I've also heard reports that their own brand swivels are actually good.
  15. Yes I presume it is superglue but why the “not recommended”? I thought that superglue is a medics’ emergency temporary skin bond.
  16. Good to know Another useful solution is mitre fix, the two part instant grip that’s ideal for, yes - mitres. Apply the liquid and then spray the other part and hold for just a few seconds (without of course getting any on your fingers).
  17. It could only be stored cold (as liquid) with a load of cooling capacity to maintain it at the low temperature which wouldn't be feasible. It would therefore need to be stored under pressure to still allow it to be in the liquid state but at ambient temperatures. It would still need venting to avoid pressure building too high and all the issues of a flammable gas would then come into play.
  18. Of course FF I’m being a muppet and forgetting about the small matter of the transfer box in between them. Thanks for being so polite in your reply 👍🏻
  19. Ouch! I read this as a conflict between the most suitable oils for the R380 and the OD. MTF for the former but ATF for the latter. I presume that they share the oil? If not then maybe you can move to MTF for the gearbox? BTW I just ordered new oils from Smith and Allan. They were a good recommendation from someone on here.
  20. Just to make you smile whilst you’re doing it, many years ago I had to clean up an Ali head from my car once when I was working on a site in contractor day is cabins. Encouraged by the older guys I took the glass out of our cabin window and used it as the flat together with grinding paste. It worked and the head was refitted and the glass put back in the window frame too. A few days later the boss came to visit and was courious about the window with opaque swirls. I daren’t say anything but the others said it had been done for privacy. 😀
  21. Glad you got it sorted. I’ll be examining mine this summer and it will be interesting to see why the bolts can’t be removed or refitted with the second row crossmember in place. Maybe that’s simply a design ‘feature’ of that model.
  22. How are you going to compress the springs? There’s a write up for how to do this for the 300TDi in the technical archive.
