  3. The Disco gearlever is set to the rear ..? so will come up through the seatbox? Why can't you use the 2.5NA gearbox? cheers Steveb
  4. If the plate was stuck to the flywheel , no matter how lightly, releasing the pressure plate won't break the 'stick' I'd be inclined to reinforce the arm at the pivot seat while it's off and then get it together and use it as soon as you can Good stuff doing the mainshaft replacement cheers Steveb
  5. What a trip , you are very lucky to do it . How did you get on cleaning it all for entry to Australia? Looking forward to seeing more pics and reading more tales from the road cheers Steveb
  6. Mmm Mogway Mine's a U1000Ag , with a 130hp MBTrac engine Most ASR's have a gvw of 3500kg , or certainly used to when I was playing in clubs cheers Steveb
  7. cool , keeping it light is always good , will be in touch about it at some point I do like your films , some lovely places to share cheers Steveb
  8. Did you walk up the hill to have a look at Bearded Lake? ...first done that nov '83 and it was a beautiful week of cold clear sunny days , so lots of great photo opportunities. A lot more exposed rock now by the look of it but that was 30 years ago great vids , keep em coming - would you be interested in an additional vehicle or two sometime in the future? cheers Steveb
  9. Check your bulkhead earth cluster near the clutch m/c on bulkhead, and on the other side by the heater box are the main batt live supply's , worth a look Do the h/l's go dim if on when you try to start? cheers Steveb
  10. pop the diaphragm cover off and check the plunger in the middle of the rubber moves down freely and the rubber is still ok . It could also be delaminating intercooler pipes cheers Steveb
  11. Ah ok that's a more comprehensive reply than I had from the local IP specialist ..would you agree that it sounds pretty normal otherwise? cheers Steveb
  12. All tdi's give a puff of black smoke on start up , the VE pump opens the governor full on start up as fuel enrichment . a bit of steam when cold at low revs is also normal for a good diesel - my 2 1/4 diesel used to produce steam at tickover after a rebore and pistons. All sounds normal to me cheers Steveb edit incorrect info out
  13. Thanks Mike Looking at building one to run off vehicle engine at tickover driven by belt off front pulley to pump so just wanted to confirm if my rough calc's were in the right area A link to your build thread would be great cheers Steveb
  14. A couple of questions on the log splitter Mike if I may What hp is the engine ? What cc/rev is the pump? What dia is the ram? And what sort of ram travel and travel speed shut to open do you cheers Steveb
  15. and maybe a chemical sniff test to see if you really have combustion gases in the coolant ? Checking those small bore coolant hoses is a good call cheers Steveb
  16. Yep , EP doesn't get into cavities as Jamie says . galv dip is the only way to get inside cavities practically I'd definitely recommend galvanising the bulkhead when doing a galv chassis and bulkhead change cheers Steveb
  17. Nice , what is the bulkhead like ? particularly top rail under screen . Brake m/c is another area that can cost ££s It looks to have all original lights and interior stuff incl switchs and even rear view mirror , If the engine is good as well then its probably worth the price, and would look great on the road as it is cheers Steveb
  18. Hi Michele Yours is a IIA? I think that goes on the front rear body mount that is directly behind the fuel tank on the body side so the studs go through the tub aluminium and then through the steel bracket on the chassis Pretty sure there is enough room to use nuts and bolts if you want to hth cheers Steveb
  19. I fitted a new prop for someone earlier this year , which they had bought mailorder , which had a tight uj before fitting . This vibrated first time up the road , so I popped the tight uj out to find the end of one of the cups had broken away. When I tried to fit a new HS uj it turned out the yoke was misaligned on one side on the prop itself. All I can think is the prop was dropped after machining and before assembly . It was returned and after much emailing was replaced. Faulty new stuff does happen .. cheers Steveb
  20. Yes , remove the pulley from the hub by taking out the three bolts , not the centre nut . then it's a straight forward case of removing the pipes , support bracket and then the three bolts that hold the pump to the timing cover cheers Steveb
  21. By the look of the size of the pipe ports I'd say that is an option to run on a PAS pump , ie low flow rate . The rest of the winch looks pretty good , so a new motor to match your flow and pressure and away you go? cheers Steveb
  22. The best way is to go to your local council ROW dept and look at the definitive maps - in our case Needham Market or Ipswich for full county records Joining a LandRover club is a good way to find out the true status of 'lanes and/or GLASS cheers Steveb
  23. Welcome to the forum , and yeah lots of LandRovers in Suffolk, several live with me and others come to me for a holiday As said above enjoy it as is for a while , snag list it and then mods depending what your use is cheers Steveb
  24. Is it just a puff of black smoke on start up? or all the time ? If all the time I'd say slightly too advanced . Does the engine sound the same? usually with too much advance it will sound more crisp, or more diesel knock. What altitude are you at? And I assume all the air pipe work is clear incl. the filter cheers Steveb
