  1. My '95 RRC doesn't do this, and never has, and that's an LR alarm system. Of course it's a different set of electrics, as the softdash was pretty much a Disco. It's possible an aftermarket system does it though.
  2. Magnetic bolt tightener? That was my invention for the inlet manifold's bolts of a P38 DT! But to shear an M12... it'd have to be a pretty big magnet methinks
  3. I think Android would be more suitable for this. It supports USB, and most devices have a USB port built in. It's also not a locked down piece of poo. Wouldn't be nice to put all the development time into it to then have the app rejected by Apple because it isn't fancy enough (seen it happen...). Developing something similar for WM/WP7 should be easy enough, the SDK is free. I don't know much about the devices they run on though.
  4. Wouldn't it be cheaper to go with something like a D60 or Toy axles?
  5. I've put in a genuine one of those, didn't come with any instructions so I fitted it as per the instructions in the RAVE. Didn't really run it long enough to see if that gave any problems though. But torque data would certainly be welcome for the next time.
  6. The frequency of it does sound like a tappet actually, or something above the cam anyway (valves, followers etc).
  7. Sounds like you let the smoke out of the Lucas system. Lucas haunts all Land Rover electrics. My gut is telling me to check the MAF, borrow a known good one off a friend and see if that one works. Alternatively, there are some electrical manuals about that tell you how to test it.
  8. Looks like Ashcroft does have a certificate, but it isn't correctly set up. I'd certainly recommend sending a mail to them asking them to fix this issue before you use the order form.
  9. Looks like there are a lot more differences between the 3.9 and 4.0 than I thought My bad, sorry for the bad info.
  10. Bore should be the same, just a different stroke, so you take the 4.6's cam and crank, put those in the 3.9, and that should be it. The only possible problem would be the ECU, as I doubt the 3.9's ECU can do 4.6, but you can always put in the GEMS from the P38, although I'm not too sure how well that'd work without all the other P38 electronics hooked up to it.
  11. I'd better build a shelter against the flying parts
  12. That's pretty easy to test without wiring it in. Just hook up the multimeter to it, and pass an iron object infront of it. It'll give you either a negative or positive reading. If it's positive, you have it the right way around.
  13. Fuel pressure regulator/injection pump, perhaps?
  14. So, they assume you're stupid and thus say you can't attempt to be intelligent about it. Sounds familiar
  15. We've had one of these since the early '00s: It's whoppingly heavy (I wonder if it counts as an illegal weapon - some MagLites do), and seems to work pretty well. I haven't bothered using it in ages, they don't really steal old Rangies over here.
  16. Special F1-heat-treated Maraging 300? (Sorry Lara, couldn't resist )
  17. Indeed excellent programme, just saw the first 3 eps, too bad the one advertised as 1940s was actually 1930s, so no LR yet. But I still can't unsee Rimmer
  18. Looks like a nice series. Does it occur in this episode?
  19. No ****. Saw some government type try to pull a Peugeot out of a ditch this winter with the snow. He was hopping about going towards the ditch himself, the chain only loosely slung over his towhook. I kindly told him I'd take care of it from there on and got it out with a very gentle pull of the kinetic strap Five minutes later and either I'd have witnessed carnage or would've had two people to pull out of that ditch.
  20. Apart from the left menu being rather tiny in Chrome (and thus most likely also Safari - both WebKit based), it seems to work fine. FF handles it nicely too. Same with Opera.
  21. Glue a bottle of water to the dash, and you'll know too.
  22. I've found the Madagascar ('87 I think) on the bay (against all my principles, public trackers suck), pretty cool to look at, but damn they're a load of plonkers
  23. Looks like something out of Top Gear, that.
  24. How... what... you built that in the time it took us to prepare an RRC for Grand Tourism >.< I'll go sob in a corner now. Have fun out there and good luck.
