  1. I was mega impressed at how well my big bore dampers keep the 110 in check offroad. I do a lot of offroad driving on rutted tracks whilst well laden up and the old bus used to sway about hugely on the pro-comps even though they seemed OK on the bounce test. I was staggered at the difference when I fitted the Terrafirmas. Will
  2. or spraying water onto the intercooler to chill it? Intelligent Intercooler spray Will
  3. I'd say so, these look exactly like mine Big Bore shocks Will
  4. You can't beat a good rural MOT station for Land Rovers I reckon. I would never let a big national company anywhere near my 110. Any rural outfit would know LRs inside out and wouldn't go doing anything stupid that would damage them. Will
  5. for a does-it-all car a D2 V8 LPG'd would be my choice. I prefer the look of D1s but having looked for months for a decent one a couple of years ago and failed I can't imagine it'd be any easier to find a unrotten one now Don't discount Freelanders, we loved ours even though it was a 1.8, great fun offroad when you get used to the 'giving it the beans' approach rather than the traditional tippy toe approach. You are right to discount the P38, I loved ours but the repair bills were crippling. or lastly you could just give yourself a good talking to and keep the 110 Will
  6. I've just got halogens with decent bulbs in on the 110 and they are fine. Admittedly the rooflights help a tad when hoofing over the moor at night Maybe its your age Nige You shouldn't be out after dark anyway Will
  7. Bruuum Brrrruuummmmm or Clatter Clatter....er no contest, V8 it is. Having said that I love my 200TDi 110 But it will get a V8 when the Tdi dies. Will
  8. Seems Jaguar are getting in on the offroad scene Is this a test bed for Jags new baby offroader Evoke competitor? Jag Prototype on ebay ;-) Maybe not... Will
  9. 101s aren't large can't argue about the thirsty bit though I've had a Series 2 sat waiting for some attention for ages, I had planned on having it on the road for this summer I haven't even seen it for three months now as its stored in a barn 4 miles from me Fixing things up is a great dream, but life seems to get in the way. Will
  10. I've had a twin pump T-Max for years, like everyone says above the switch and the guage bit are carp but the unit itself is brilliant. They sit on a pre-drillied rubber isolated base as well so you can bolt them in easily. Will
  11. eeek! I must be on the verge of 20 years LR ownership now. Does that mean I'm an old git? Will
  12. Good for you There are plenty of people less well informed about though and if just one reads this thread and properly registers their LR so their insurance isn't invalid then thats a good thing. Theres no difference between a chav in a knackered M5 with no insurance and a tax-dodge hybrid when it comes to an accident. Will
  13. They haven't even fitted the front wheelarches straight, talk about bodge job, good grief! Will
  14. Until they stop thinking of Defender as a car and remember that its actually a very fast and comfortable tractor Land Rover will never get truly back on track. Judging Defender by car scale profits is at best stupid. If Defender only breaks even they have a complete bargain on their hands with the amount of subliminal advertising every news programme gives them. Nations hit by the ravages of the worst weather the world can create, every war zone, every expedition, every emergency service theres a Defender in the background, you can buy that advertising that only comes from having the right product. I'd strip Defender back to basics to make it cheaper to build and more reliable. It'll take the aftermarket companies about a week to catch up and have upgrades on sale for added comfort etc, LR can even cherrypick these and offer them as 'Approved' to fleece the toffs at dealer level if they want to. Will
  15. You'd be amazed how much fuel you can save driving on these guages. I can get my Dads Punto up to 72mpg on a 40mile round trip to town whereas if you ignore it and drive 'normally' it barely does 35mpg. I think accurate fuel usage guages should be compulsory on new cars if everyone is really serious about saving fuel, some like the big colour changing glowing ball in a Honda Clarity maybe. I'd seriously consider fitting one to my 110 if I had the remotest idea how to. Will
  16. Happy days indeed Les My Land Rover Spider badge has completely faded to nothing on the 110 I looked a few days ago because I spotted that LRS badge on someone elses website. Will
  17. I hope whatever you are up to goes well Tony, the kettles always on if you are over this way just give me a shout... Will
  18. Devon4x4 haven't dealt with SD for years apparently, I was after some SD brackets for mine a while back and asked Simon if he could get them. There are lots of back street blacksmiths who can make cages. Just download the tube spec and bracketry details from the ARC regs, take them some photos and drawings to work from and get some prices. Might be worth going to an AWDC trial locally and asking where people got their cages made. Most old school triallers seem to be pretty much home built so you may find someone who will do it for beermoney. My internal/external cage cost me £680 all in at a backstreet blacksmith, its similar to the SD Camel Cages with 3 internal hoops and the external front hoop. My external bars go right to the back rather than just to the B pillar hoop as the SD ones do. It could have been done a lot neater and stronger but as I wasn't wanting to do hillrallies or anything fast with it I am happy enough. Will
  19. When I was looking at SD cages a few years ago I spoke to loads of people. General consensus was £1000 to buy it £1000 to fit it..at least. Apparently they are a bugger to fit due to a.SD tolerances and more importantly b. LR tolerances. Will
  20. I've done exactly this to my 110 earlier this year. I've fitted a PAS box from our scrapper 300TDi Discovery to the 1989 110. It means you lose the steering damper, you can get a kit to fit a clamp on damper if you feel you need it. To be honest I can't tell the difference without one. Will
  21. My 110 used to eat alternators, almost every time I played in the mud. I started pressure-washing them before playing then WD40ing them, then as soon as I finished playing I cleaned the lights etc then sloshed the remainder of the water I carry over the alternator before driving home. Once back I re-pressure-washed it and reWD40'd it and I haven't had a problem since. Will
  22. They look great Craig, joined the group and posted a photo of my red 110 on there. Good luck with it Will
  23. They sound similar to mine, mine were less than that but it was a few years ago. Got mine here -4x4Store-Exeter You won't find anything on their useless website, give them a call. Heres mine, they are galv, but with black slapped on. Will
  24. sounds interesting Kev, I've been half looking for something like that for a while, keep us posted when you've got some sorted. Will
  25. If you are worried about mess stick to ATs and drop the pressures if its wet, MTs will dig to find grip. Dropping the pressures is a bit of a pain but it works a treat. Will
