  1. On my old Isuzu engine I swapped the tdi plenum type manifold for a banana branched manifold used on a different model car. Can't say it made a lot of difference but looked nicer and had a nice clean flow from intercooler to ports. This forked tube thing looks like it evens the airflow across the ports by making it equally bad front & back with a couple of savage bends thrown in. I can't get my head around how adding volume to the intake won't reduce boost pressure and add lag. Also how the flow rate will be any different one port to another coming from a pressurised manifold, but would be interesting to see some bench tests or dyno data, some interesting things can happen. Not interesting enough to spend 250 quid on though 🤣
  2. Bad driving, bad recovery, many scratches, why couldn't it drive out? https://www.facebook.com/mark.platt.92/videos/4076203022396020/
  3. A high cube container is 9'6" tall, generally plenty high enough for a big vehicle. No need to worry about solid shocks etc, you can just ask to have the chassis lashed down to stop it being able to rock about, though once it's on an enormous container ship they don't move much anyway (but can get chucked about in the dock yards). Shipping charges consist of packing/unpacking, yard & handling fees, agent fees, cost of boat ride - probably looking around £1600 each way plus any customs fees or local regs like cleaning etc. It's not much more for a 40' container, so gets cheaper if you can find someone to share with.
  4. Maybe just reusing old cartons - I keep all the boxes I get deliveries in and reuse them , save the planet n all that 😇
  5. Either air cavitation or a bad valve I'd say.
  6. The LHD 12v motor/fan assembly is easy enough to pick up UTP1910 - I would have thought somewhere like LP4A or Leimers could order one - then use a step down regulator for its supply or find a 24v version of the motor - I guess as long as the shaft diameter is the same it doesnt matter too much if the motor casing is slightly different. Going to be a while before we can go back methinks.. 😕
  7. The photo above is from my 2.8i. The red wire is on the connected plug - you don't have anything plugged into yours which is why you won't have a red wire? If your A/C is working it's because there was a short circuit which they have re-wired leaving the old connector dangling. Edit : bare in mind my earlier comment, things get badly bodged in Africa and lots of things end up in smoke. That certainly doesn't look like a factory fuse holder - why would they fit a loose one next to the fuse box.. I'd say someone has tried a creative fix for something using what they had to hand, it didn't work. I would just tape it up and leave it. And dont look behind the dash 😬
  8. That is the ignition switched power supply connector for the aircon loom . Don't read too much into the connector itself, it may not be original - I deal with a lot of SA cars and repairing electricals isn't a national strong suit and little care is usually given to doing things properly.
  9. Pity he found South Africas most anal Defender owner to join him, obviously didn't want to spill any from the freshly filled salt & pepper pots 😄
  10. Transglobal express are good for larger stuff, otherwise just try each of the regular online agents as there can be differences in their pricing algorithms. Moderately heavy stuff can be very expensive to ship though and it's often better for them to buy more stuff here and have a pallet shipped.
  11. Just having a clear through some boxes of junk treasure in the attic and came across this - quite a nice little thing, very nicely made - shame I pulled the mirrors off 😆 My grandad was a big fleet buyer back in the day and was at the Eastnor launch event for the 90 where he picked up the usual bumf and freebies including this. Wonder what they gave out at the latest Defender launch?
  12. There isn't enough water in the system to reach the heater which sits above the engine. It is overheating because there isn't enough water. May just need topping up, or you may have a further issue such as split hose, hole in rad, blown head gasket, split heater matrix, water pump seal, core plug etc etc. If no mayo looking oil in filler cap, top water up and run till you can see where it's escaping.
  13. Assuming no airlock, there is good flow through the matrix if you remove the return pipe and the matrix is new, it may just be water not getting hot enough - a IR temperature gun is great for checking this stuff. A lot of thermostats are duff straight out of the box and may be letting too much coolant through, so try a different one.
  14. I took mine to bits and cleaned them in an ultrasonic bath. I did the nozzles up to a moderate heft on the wrench rather than a thread stripping vein bulging dilithium crystal wrecking monster torque And they haven't fell off yet 🙂
  15. The big MoD Hawker Enersys batteries used for starting tanks, helicopters and FFR kit have a lot of thump - sell them quite often at Withams for cheap. I've had a couple in the workshop for ten years now still going strong and will start anything that's capable of starting.
  16. Based on what you've got then yes get the series backs/bases and just get a pair of frames made to hold them, they're only angle iron and flat steel - I can send pics/dimensions of the bare frames. The fore/aft adjuster rails are the only mildly complex bit on them but I guess not entirely necessary. Alternatively if you have trimmers/upholsterers locally just get the bases/backs made also, they're very simple - foam and vinyl glued to a square of hardboard.
  17. You'd need the correct seat frames to fit those bases & backs to, and they aren't cheap either. Why not just get a retrim kit for your seats?
  18. A few of the UK parts sellers (Paddocks, Craddocks,Island 4x4 etc) will probably ship you a full rear stick set. Otherwise just have one made, there's nothing particularly special about them.
  19. Looks like a standard stick set in the picture - and aside from the padding it looks like a standard military style main roll bar.
  20. I was wondering why on earth they needed to add a front downward facing camera, but sounds like the lack of wheel visibility, driver feedback and a tendency to turn into a three wheeler forced the requirement. Design flaw from the outset.
  21. Have used these guys recently if you decide to have repaired/replaced - proper specialists, very good standard of work & service: https://www.dasteeringltd.co.uk
  22. The shocks look very off centre - is the mount hole on the turret offset? What happens if you rotate it 180 degrees?
  23. Fancy dropping one of the worlds most iconic vehicle designs only to let someone else pick it up. Reedonkulous.
  24. Bonnet looks a bit fugly at first, but looks like it will be a pretty simple aerodynamic improvement over the Defender type. I like it, looks a whole lot nicer than the JLR Offender.
