  1. Oooops, I understand HID are illegal in the UK unless the vehicle has headlamps designed for them and self-leveling suspension.
  2. That's progress for you, am I glad then I have a dip stick.
  3. If the reset button is pressed in and it stays in that will stop the numbers turning, other than that the drive cogs in the speedo head may be broken, detached.
  4. Your Owner's Handbook will tell you what grades to use and the oil companies have a search facility on their sites.
  5. It stops flys The bottom of the screen is a pressure area therefore the heater picks up it's intake of air from there. The foam is filter between the intake and the outside world.
  6. The two metal pipes are joined ERR319 Pipe assembly-heater feed for vehicles withh VIN from LA081990.. There are two other numbers for VINs MA...
  7. Wheels were fitted to the the diesel and 4.0 P38's only, and the first thing I would change if I was an owner. RRC three spokes do look different.
  8. No he's saying "as long as there is a sound that is heard over the background noise of the engine it counts as an audiable warning " and my disco and other vehicles I own or drive the only sound of an audiable warning is the tic tic of the flasher relay.
  9. The breather is a stiff rubber tube that links with the filler pipe and vents via the filler cap so either the fuel has overflowed or you have a leak to be able to smell the stuff.
  10. Some quick photos of the stuff, one side is dimpled the other flat, can see some light and the thickness is 25mm to the tips which I trimed flat.
  11. I replaced my 11 year old foam last year, I went aquarium shop and got some plastic filter foam. It comes as flat sheet enough to do three discos about £3.50 a sheet, there's several grades/density of foam so take some of your existing stuff along to match up although you will need the light density one, the one you can see a bit of light through, some of the filter foam is high density which wouldn't let the air flow through.
  12. A bit more involved in removing a steering wheel when it's fitted with an air bag, but I don't see why the steering box has any thing to do with tracking, it may be that the steering wheel ends up of off centre but thats it. To centralise the wheel if it's no more than 5 deg out of alignment is carried out by the adjustment of the drag link. I think more info is required.
  13. You are in top gear way before 52mph, thats when the torque converter locks up. My x 3.5 RR locked up at 45 but locking up at that speed did make the RR sluggish at that point. Yes it is possible to convert your gear box, but as it's a internal thing u will have to get someone like Ashcrofts to work on it, or change to box for a 3.5 RR one.
  14. Ok, so when did the alarm start sounding was it when the vehicle battery was first dis-connected or re-connected, if only when re-connected, thats an indication the the Nicad battery in the sounder is flat which is understandable as it is 11 or 12 years old, which is also confirmed by removing the plug and the sound stops. The idea of a self-contained sounder is that it would sound as soon as the 12v vehicle supply is removed. Therefore using the procedure required to stop the sounder sounding when the vehicles battery was disconnected is not require. Did you re-sinc the alarm fob after you reconnected the battery? with out that you would be unable to set or unset the alarm or even silence the sounder should it sound on re-connection of the vehicle battery.
  15. They all do something like that but settle down after a few seconds, as it controlled by the by-pass air valve, check it isn't sticking also the air hoses to the plenum chamber.
  16. Window ECU on a 300 D1 is located behind the glovebox. Open up the glovebox and release the hinge springs to allow the box to fully open. The ECU is fix to a mounting bracket by three nuts the bracket is fixed to the bulkhead by two nuts.
  17. Clonks are usually worn propshaft UJ's or the A frame ball joint but then any bush or mounting will make a noise if worn. Why the garage didn't pick up on it I don't know, but with Land Rovers you put it away one day and the next day there's a problem ... that's the fun.
  18. 4. will be dry solderd joints in the window ECU, a common prob, so get the soldering iron out...or the isolate switch is 'on'.
  19. There's a few old & new on ebay.
  20. You can't, all you can set is the base idle. The engine management looks after the tick over. get you self a Haynes manual and setting the base idle is explaned in there, it's easy to do. Also check the adjustment of the accelerator cable and the by-pass air valve at the rear of the plenum chamber, again easy stuff and it's all explaned in the manual. And WELCOME to the Forum

  22. Yup it was always Halfords fore me, my original LR battery lasted 5 years and now my replacement Lucas battery from Halfords is nearly 8 years old. It cost £72 back then, now they want £93 so when is packs up I will be looking somewhere else for a replacement.
