  1. The main housing isn't going to like that after a few lumps and bumps! What's that H word?
  2. I'm sure Roger will be along soon, he recommends drilling the holes out and tapping the axle to take M12 ( I think), ISTR he said it's a trialing mod, but you might want to consider it.
  3. more work than the back, in that you've got to (re)move the front half shafts somehow, either by pulling the whole swivel off in one, or dismantling it to get the CV and shaft out.
  4. Yup, as long as they've both got the same number of splines, they'll swap.
  5. 1000 Euro!!! 693 quid!!! My Portmig 215A cost a hundred quid LESS than that, delivered! that's including a regulator and gloves/tips/shrouds freebies etc.
  6. Yup, teflon liner, aluminium wire and an oversize tip, i've got those bits ready to go and will be picking up some Argon when the current bottle of Ar/CO2 runs out. Heat is the biggest problem, short sharp bursts of welding seem to be the way forward. I'll post my efforts if anyone's interested.
  7. Thanks for the info people, I'll have a look at that site. It'll be a model of full scale vehicles. As i'm approaching it from the control & systems angle, rather than say a mechanical engineering angle, I should be able to neglect inertia differences between the model and a full size vehicle, or at least ignore them as much as is possible! I've still got to get approval for the project, I'm just doing some research for the proposal i'm just about to submit.
  8. I'm looking at the possibility of building a small-scale LR-style chassis and drive train for developing electronic traction control and psuedo locking diffs using individual wheel braking and speed sensing. Fabbing up a chassis and axles shouldn't be too much hard work, but i'm searching for off-the-shelf diffs, wheel stations and suspension components, from the RC car world i guess. Does anyone know of anything useful? Cheers Luke
  9. I'd intercept the wire where it comes out of the bulkhead on it's way to the pump, and run the two new wires across the bulkhead and round to the switch.
  10. I reckon it'll cost more to repair than to fit MS. You can probably pick up a s/h one on ebay etc, or just fit the 'squirt.
  11. The hazard switch itself is a prime suspect too. The indicator wiring goes through it. I diagnosed the fault by waggling the hazard switch up down, left right, varying pressure etc, and watched the indicators flash randomly.
  12. UHF has licensing issues in the UK though...
  13. Yup, that's off topic! go to www.green-oval.com
  14. 22 gets used a lot when i'm convoy driving with LR friends, i guess due to the SWR issue, but for no particular other reason.
  15. All i was thinking was, for the cost of the Vx's, if the software could do it, you could have one with data, and one with plots, just for the hell of it really, no real need.
  16. Hmmm, might have been, it was visible, and as high up as the cable would practically allow, by the looks of things. a while ago now.
  17. I'm with the NFU and they're aware of the mods to the 90. no problem as far as they were concerned.
  18. I've seen a picture of an old type throttle cable, with the TPS inside an IP rated box under the bonnet on the bulkhead. it was a see-through enclosure for added bling too.
  19. If it does, it will be only for the basic emissions data for EGR etc. the engine is still mechanical so won't have anywhere near the sort of data throughput an 'electronic' engine has, like a td5 or MS'd V8 etc. Fridge, very cool, I'm liking the budgetry aspect too. Assuming the Palm sits there as a passive listener, what about running two off the ECU, twice the data to look at then, one for graphs, one for numbers ?
  20. The top bell housing bolts are going to be a PITA, and i don't think you'll get the box back far enough to slide off, before the gear levers foul. The transfer lever scrapped the seatbox. That's just my personal experience though.
  21. I run 255/85R16 (33"x 10") with a standard adwest steering box and that's doing the job fine. the original failed about 3 years ago (when i was still on 205/80 tyres).
  22. ring your local VOSA office.
  23. Seach the forum for words like SVA, DVLA, VOSA, there's plenty of cans already open.
  24. Last week i was working on someone's disco which looked pretty much like that, also, the inner wheel arches on the front were all but gone.
